This drive has been discontinued
Pros: Fantastic drive for boot/program drive. The most reliable product you can get these days. A must for video editing apps.
Cons: None with VelociRaptor, but see comments below.
Overall Review: I can't belive Newegg is still selling this drive online, when the manufacturter (WD) had discontinued it months ago! So, if you buy it new, you are buying a discontinued model, just so you know. WD only makes 150 and 300GB models of this drive now. Amazingly, B&H Phot lsits the drive on their web site as "DISCONTINUED." but you would not know this from Newegg. Also, WB makes these driver in two versions, backpane connection and cable connection, Newegg should be clearer as to which conenctivity versions they are selling.
Seagate with no memory buffer!
Pros: Can store data.
Cons: Slooooow, probably due to small buffer (but read below).
Overall Review: Careful with this Seagate product!!! While most other legitimate hard drive makers tell you that buffer size of their drives, Seagate is mum on the subject. Their product web site simply states it is a 7200RPM drive, but you have no clue wheter it comes with 2MB of buffer, 32MB, or something in-between. Too bad you cannot trust Seagate any more.... Better stick with a brand that is not afraid to reveal the size of the drive's buffer, like apaprently Seagate is. These days, stick with 16MB or 32MB, anyhow. Ther way I figure from its write speed, this Seagate probably has only 2 megs, nearly not enough for modern-era data writes and reads.
More power than the Apollo Program
Pros: This monster has got more computing power than the entire Apollo Program ever had. If you must run four 30-inch 4.1MP monitors simultaneously, this is the card for it.
Cons: Max. energy consumption at 208 Watts sounds a tad excessive. Having 4 x DisplayPorts is of no great benefit if you want to connect projectors to this thing, since even pricey DCI-Class projectors use only SDI and DVI ports, and the less expensive ones use DVI, HDMI, and VGA. This card hasn't got any of those. A graphics cards at this astronomical price point should have more than just one type of connectivity -- i.e. DisplayPort 4-times over. Would have been a whole lot better for most folks if it came with 2 x DVI and 2 x DP. Instead, you are going to to have to be using all sorts of adapters and converters like the Apple folks always do.
Overall Review: Does anyone know where the 3-pin DIN standard "Stereo 3D Connector" connects to? Could not figure that one out.
Acomdata rulz!!!
Pros: High quality drive and components, built like a tank.
Cons: Need to install the utility to control sleep mode, but the drive is spinning like new after 10 years of duty.
Overall Review: I purchased a 60GB IDE external drive made by Acomdata back in 1999. It has been running fo me great for the past 10 years, w/o any trouble at all. Unless the company's products have somehow gone downhill recently, I can't validate any of the negative reviews here. For me, Acomdata makes the highest quality external drives, bar none. I would not buy any of the other junk out there.
WD - No Support
Pros: Good for storing data.
Cons: Jack-in-the-box product with no support and no pre-sales help.
Overall Review: The specification page for this and other WD external drives on the company web sites conveniently "forgets" to mention the drive's spin rate and many other crucial data. You get the size in inches, and that's about that. You have no clue as to what type of a drive you are in fact getting inside of this pedestrian-looking enclosure. The company's "Phone Support" is a riot -- you can never talk to a live person when you call. It's just not possible, the thing gets disconnected immediately when you are supposed to be "connected" to someone. This used to be a reputable company not that long ago, what has happened to them?
