works for me
Pros: I'm giving it 5 stars because it does everything I need. Note, I'm not using the BIOS on the supplied card. I built a 5-disk RAID5 array under Linux. Linux sees all of the drives as individual disks, since I did not set anything up with the card's BIOS. This is exactly what I wanted and expected, therefore the 5 stars. I like the sleds, they work fine.
Cons: I can't think of any. I saw some negative reviews, but that's not my experience at all. your mileage may vary.
Overall Review: The box and the server that I attached it to are tucked away in my basement so I'm not concerned about noise, but it doesn't seem noisy.
Much cooler
Pros: I had a similar cooler that came with a smaller fan and it was too loud. I removed that fan and just relied on the ample airflow that is already in my case but I was becoming concerned my temps were running around 80C. This cooler has made a 40C difference so far, and it's nice and quiet, I can't tell the difference with it spinning at 1200 RPM. I like the fact the fan is a PWM fan too.
Cons: With my motherboard, the cooler interferes with my RAM. I had to resort to basically cutting away some of the fin material on the bottom (thus voiding my warranty!), but I'm ok with that ... I modify my stuff all the time.
Overall Review: I think it's a very good value. Make sure it fits with the rest of your equipment if you don't want to cut some metal like me.
WPA works
Pros: I have 3 of these devices and while the documentation could be a little better, WPA does work in bridge mode contrary to another reviewer. "Ethernet Client" is the correct mode to choose for bridge, not repeater, and WPA works.
Cons: The documentation could be better but once it's set up it keeps working with no fuss.
I like it
Pros: It works with Linux. I have been using it with my gentoo AMD64 box with KDE. The scroll ring works well, you need some simple settings in xorg.conf and .xinitrc.
Cons: sometimes it's a little hard to click precisely where you want - I think I need my chair lower or my desk higher to get my wrist in a better position.
