Still chuggin'!

PCM Powercom KING PRO KIN-1000AP 1000 VA 5 Outlets UPS
PCM Powercom KING PRO KIN-1000AP 1000 VA 5 Outlets UPS

Pros: Metal casing Heavy-duty cage innards Enterprise-ready Easy-to-obtain batteries.

Cons: Legacy RS-232 serial port connection--mainboards now may not directly support.

Overall Review: Given the lower-power needs of flat-screen monitors along with the availability of better efficiency 80-plus power-supplies today, a larger-sized UPS doesn't prove as necessary for a desktop PC as it did in the past. I'm concerned nowadays about vampire current. Nonetheless, I'd like for my network (and, VOIP phone system) to continue on 24/7. The house I'm in currently has older wiring. Thus, I find that the unit's AVR (automatic voltage regulation) works and proves quite reassuring! (My brother doesn't use a UPS--so, (predictably) he's had more problems with desktop PC integrity. Thus, I believe that UPS units still prove worthwhile purchases.) UPS units also are useful for any situation which requires some assurance of current and current stability--naturally, they aren't a panacea. Old clock radios, timers, and home theater also are worthy uses. The manual warns against plugging in laser printers. This unit has two on-off switches--the small black one in back is the master for the unit--don't forget to turn it on, as well. I'm relating that the batteries for my 2007 unit conked earlier this year. The batteries for this and similar-sized collegue units appear to be identical--labels merely are stuck on and old cases are re-used. Many online vendors offer these batteries and replacements prove easy to obtain. Two types of terminals exist for these batteries--one simply is narrower than the other. Metal adapters likely are in the boxes, somewhere, for replacement batteries--don't overlook that if those are needed. The small terminals will work, though--they're not optimal--simply crimp appropriately. Short metal tabs at the front of the cage may need slight bending to release the batteries. Given warranty is done--no big deal! Note the wiring and repeat it--don't misplace the small wire which connects the stacked batteries. Other UPS units from other makers still work for me and offer quality. I marvel at the heavy-duty casing and old-school ruggedness and simplicity of this unit. It's intended for small and medium-sized business owners--and, the rigors associated. Thus, I still recommend strongly and would replace with same! (Given likely battery replacements, the unit may yet outlive this purchaser!)

Foxconn A88GMX AM3 AMD 880G + SB710 HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
Foxconn A88GMX AM3 AMD 880G + SB710 HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Inexpensive. Four DDR3 memory slots

Cons: Hot 880G northbridge Foxconn is/was limited to AM3--AM3+ is the AMD flagship gamer/serious PC CPU socket..

Overall Review: I'm not used to boards conking after DOA time at setup or infancy. Several years is OK, instead. It's the board--PS is OK--board won't respond any longer to reset or power keys after switch on and powering on. Spend the extra $50 bucks or so and get a 990FX board--that's a heavy duty setup--with loads of heavy heatsinks and many other great features. It' s what you really want in AM3/AM3+ . That's where I'm heading next here. First time for a Foxconn board. Foxconn is Apple's favorite fabricator--they've been putting out boards since the beginnings of consumer self-build--perhaps since 286 or 386. Foxconn nowadays should stick solely to Apple, perhaps. I suppose that this is a faint-hearted attempt to stay in the self-build biz for them....

Awesome deal! Works nominally with BT-300 headphones,

2 in 1 USB Bluetooth Transmitters 5.0 Wireless Audio Music Stereo Adapter Receiver for PC Bluetooth Speaker Headphone
2 in 1 USB Bluetooth Transmitters 5.0 Wireless Audio Music Stereo Adapter Receiver for PC Bluetooth Speaker Headphone

Pros: Great value. Works with Sentry BT-300 headphones. Sentry BT-969 earbuds. Billboard BB-BT-EB earbuds, Billboard BB-BT-EP earphones. and Vivitar VZ40038BT earphones. These Sentry BT-300 headphines are considered difficult to pair with other BT transmitters/receivers. They wouldn't work with my more expensive dual-Jack competitor model. This economy device seems also to lack residual background interference.

Cons: This only has one analog jack.-a user must unplug and then re-plug USB (power) to get into receiver mode. (Keep the instructions.) It starts out in transmitter mode--red lLED. Receiver mode outputs blue LED. Forget about using a computer's USB codec for audio with this device--USB is solely for power. I've just now tested this only for transmission--I can't vouch for long-term functionality, euther. Still, I'm so glad that my BT-300 headphones work well with this unit--so far. Clear, not audiophile quality sound --ordinary TV sound.

Overall Review: Heartily recommend! I'm thinking of re-purchasing several more for PCs and another TV. I simply unplugged the other device, plugged this in its place, and it paired nominally all the buds, earphones, and headphones I own. Initial incompatibility appears not to be a problem. I'm hrilled that it immediately paired and operated nominally with my BT-300: It's a big let-down when your best device proves incompatible: Thanks to this inexpensive, yet versatile device, I find the BT-300 is not hopeless! It's chugging along smartly right now with a cheapo 32" LED TV's headphone and USB jacks!

220V+ outlet

Haier RDE350AW White 6.6 Cu. Ft. Electric Dryer
Haier RDE350AW White 6.6 Cu. Ft. Electric Dryer

Pros: Haier is the third largest appliance maker--worldwide. They have a large footprint other countries--especially many in the eastern hemisphere. They started out slowly in the US with chest freezers. Now, their products offered here include large appliances, LCD/LED TVs, and window A/C units.

Cons: The PRC brand still is not well known in the US--becoming more prominent, though.

Overall Review: I'm butting in here in disbelief! Are you certain that the special 220V+ outlets in your homes are lacking? It's not a standard wall outlet--it's a very large and heavy-duty outlet--taking very large prongs. It should take four prongs or three--four is code for newer homes, these days. Given that you find such an outlet (generally black or dark brown)--your circuit breaker also should prove OK. Given that your 220V+ oulet is legacy 3-prong, you may need to replace the 4-prong cable on newer dryers with a 3-prong ones

OK memory, Faulty memory heatsink design

Wintec One 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model 3OH16009U9H-8GK
Wintec One 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model 3OH16009U9H-8GK

Pros: Seems to work fine to this point: Memtest86+ 10 passes OK.

Cons: People are right here: These heatsink blades simply fall off from their ineffective adhesive strips--these blades all-too easily could short out something onboard. Wintec should use clips and hinges (as on Evercool's heatsinks) in order to keep the blades intact. Otherwise, the heatsinks seem to be heavy and pretty good--what a waste!

Overall Review: For now, I've decided to remove the blades and to bare the mem. Have ordered aftermarket Evercool heatsinks. Installed Rana triple-core proc today--board powers on and beeps twice with no video, no post--I wonder if this mem is the culprit. (Sargas proc still works--now reinstalled.) I shall try the proc with a different new, board (on order), power supply, and other peripherals--along with the Kingston XMS 1600 sticks (2X2GB) which the Wintec modules replaced on the Gigabyte board. I'll relate back if this Wintec mem apparently is at fault, given this better proc.... Turtle Beach Audio Advantage Amigo II USB Interface Sound Card & Headset Adapter
Turtle Beach Audio Advantage Amigo II USB Interface Sound Card & Headset Adapter

Pros: 1. Durable--usb dongle 2. Adds ability to use headphones, micropohones, VOIP, DAC, etc. 3. Adds ability to avoid onboard sound and problems 4. Doesn't use the single PCI slot on newer boards or a PCI-EX1 slot 5. Easy Plug 'n play--Win, Mac, and Linux/Ubuntu (12.10 here) 6. Good to own when your sound circuitry or card dies or suffers interference and distortion. 7. Somewhat "taut" sound. 8. Useful for laptops. 9. Turtle Beach/Voyetra support and quality. Likely lasts longer than competitors at this level--dongle feature a plus. 10. Bus powered--no a/c adapter or power cords. 11. Simple and "idiot proof." 12. Way cheaper than today's better sound board solutions.

Cons: 1. Not very efficient. Had to turn volume way up on my receiver. Bus power is limiting. 2. USB codec sound controls--a separate sound system: Not as configurable as onboard or soundcard controls through OS (especially Win or Mac). Somewhat primitive control yet generally workable. 3. Price is higher than some competing models more directly related to common PRC fabricators. 4. Limited and simple analog, via USB codec--may not thrill the user as a good PCI-EX or better PCI card might these days. 5. Need to know how to change sound controls to those of this USB codec device--or to get assistance.

Overall Review: I had hum through my onboard sound on my Win XP system. I had thought that my green sound jack had become loose. I later found that the culprit was a cable box. The sound is good in its way--it reminds me of VIA soundcards in the PCI days--a taut sound. (I'm pretty certain that the chip is from C-Media, though. That's true of it's sister product, the "Micro II," at least. That product lacks a mic jack but adds digital (not EAX, of course--no SPDIF better than stereo from Voyetra). I'm glad to own this product as a future workaround for sound problems with boards and cards. Also, it allows easy access to headphone usage--an easy, elegant solution that gets around front sound ports, idiot proprietary case cables, and board ports. The product seems extremely durable--I'll likely forget about it until needed--a good thing: I can be quite confident that it will work as needed and intended. The USB dongle feature adds durability--no doubt about it--that's a big plus. It's rubberized-type (heavy cord-type) plastic will last a good while and protect its innards well--it's better than the hard, ultimately brittle plastic of many competitor models. It's hard to find anything soundboard--USB-ready--perhaps besides expensive and complex gamer competitors in stores. I'm glad that Newegg got this to me--it will prove useful! I'll likely never need to repurchase. I may as well forget stores! I'm not going to waste gas anymore. Newegg always has been the very reliable and expert online vendor for PC hobbyists and system builders at all levels--extremely speedy shipping to most areas is a hallmark--they get packages out very quickly. (I consider Newegg as the "Emperor" of the PC-builder parts biz!) I'm interested now in other offerings from the Great Vendor, as well!

Awesome deal! Works nominally with my BT headphone, earphones, earbuds. Headphone compatibility is considered otherwise problematic for that model. Considering repurchases for other TVs, PCs.
