SanDisk X210 2.5

5 out of 5 eggs Easy install and migration... so far 01/22/2014

This review is from: SanDisk X210 2.5" 256GB SATA 6Gb/s MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SD6SB2M-256G-1022i

Pros: 19nm Ex2 Toggle-mode flash memory and it's passed OEM torture testing for major PC/Server manufacturers so it's been tested to a higher standard than 95% of other SSD's out there.
Easy migration and install as with any other HDD or SSD
Fast boots and faster load times across all applications. Awesome so far!

Cons: No 3.5" to 2.5" adaptor bracket for desktop installs is included so you'll have to pick one up with it. It's designed for the laptop/server market, so that's probably the reason why but for a 50 cent part, you'd figure they'd throw it in for good measure.

Other Thoughts: I owned another brand and didn't buy the "Deluxe" version with the higher-grade Flash memory only to have it drop sectors only a month after install and after only 16 months is bricked so do your homework on the type of memory in your SSD and ensure that it's good for your application.
My experience (and those of others that I know in the biz) with SSD's is that you need to go with units that are OEM validated or enterprise-worthy for higher probability for long-term reliablity. Higher costs? Usually, but SanDisk's price-point on this one might have a good value proposition.... I'll let you all know in 12 months.

Mushkin Enhanced Chronos 2.5

  • neweggOwned For: more than 1 year

Pros: Extremely fast, easy migration, and overall easy install.

Cons: Started getting bad blocks about 3 months after I bought it. No biggy at first only had a few, but then after 12 months I had to run CHKDSK almost every week because it would freeze up due to lost sectors/blocks. After 16 months, it effectively died. Will not boot off of it and can't even have it hooked up to the MB anymore without it locking up everything. CHKDSK won't even run on it. Just freezes up after 30 seconds.

Other Thoughts: Should have spent the additional $20 and got the Deluxe model with the better flash memory, but the Egg was out of stock.
