Much better signal
Pros: I was running a wrt54gl through two walls to a Ralink USB dongle connected to a desktop computer by a 6" USB extension. Before swapping to the RNX-N250UBE signal strength reported by Inssider averaged -65bd. The new Roswell adapter increased the average signal by 10db to -55db. The sale price and free shipping helped make a great buy.
Cons: None
Arris Problems
Pros: Used to work OK.
Cons: Since Arris purchased Motorola Home models SB6120, SB6121 and SB6141 have been plagued with T3 and T4 timeouts that cause frequent modem reboots. My ISP, Mediacom, asked me if I would be willing to test a reworked modem to help solve the problems. Instead I went with another brand.
Defective Product
Pros: None.
Cons: Product had a manufacturing defect such that the gate surrounding the pins was too tight to fit on a DVI port. Bending the gate enabled installation but the adapter would not transmit a signal. I threw the sorry thing in a trash can. Newegg, why do I have to give one star?
The DVR future is coming
Pros: The HDHR Prime is wonderful and it's only getting better. Silicon Dust produced a new Kodi addon for live TV and started a Kickstarter campaign to aid the development of HD Homerun DVR software that will handle protected content, be OS agnostic and integrate with Kodi. Windows and WMC will no longer be needed for complete functionality.
Cons: The only negative has always been the requirement for using Windows Media Center to record protected content and that problem is being addressed by Silicon Dust.
Overall Review: Check out the Kickstarter campaign for HD Homerun DVR.
Better than Motorola
Pros: Never reboots, never drops out, rarely reports correctable code word errors and never reports uncorrectable code word errors.
Cons: There is a common issue with blinking US blue light even though US channels are bonded. The blinking doesn't affect performance. Some suspect firmware and some suspect ISP infrastructure.
Overall Review: Bought to replace a SB6121 that had frequent reboots with T3 errors, constant drop outs (40-50 per day) and ridiculous amounts of uncorrectable code word errors.
Fast but Fixed Disk
Pros: Very fast drive that is a bargain when at sale price.
Cons: I was hoping the drive would identify as removable. A January 2014 post on the Sandisk forum stated that Sandisk changed back to producing flash drives as removable. I thought that I would likely receive a removable drive so I was disappointed.
Overall Review: I considered sending the drive back but decided to keep it.
