HAF 932

Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced - High Air Flow Full Tower Computer Case with USB 3.0 and All-Black Interior
Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced - High Air Flow Full Tower Computer Case with USB 3.0 and All-Black Interior

Pros: Nice build and lots of room. The cable management behind the mobo is a nice feature. The 3.5 bay trays are great and the fan blowing across them keeps the HDs nice and cool. With the huge fans, the case is very quiet for the amount of air it moves. Whoever said it was loud needs to go buy an eMachine.

Cons: The 5.25 bay mounting thingies are odd (work like a push-button pen) and they are far from adequate. You have to use screws on the back side if you dont want your DVD drives flapping around. For the price of this case, I expect the side panels to have a better attachment system (like hinges or something). The cutout in the mobo tray thats supposed to allow you to remove the CPU backplate doesnt line up with my Gigabyte mobo. There is no real standard so I'm well aware that this can happen. But, they should at least state this when promoting the "feature".

Overall Review: A lot of the reviewers are claiming this is a "MONSTER". Well, sorry, it's not that big. The full tower that I replaced with this one is probably 5 inches taller. So, if youre new to the whole building thing, and have only seen the Dells and HPs sold at Walmart, then yeah...maybe you'll think it's a monster. Otherwise, I'd say its on the short-fat side of full towers. I would have preferred more 3.5 bays and less 5.25's...but thats just me.

Great while it lasted

TRENDnet 5-Port Unmanaged Gigabit GREENnet Desktop Metal Switch, Ethernet-Network Switch, 5 x Gigabit Ports, Fanless, 10 Gbps Switching Fabric, Lifetime Protection, Black, TEG-S50g
TRENDnet 5-Port Unmanaged Gigabit GREENnet Desktop Metal Switch, Ethernet-Network Switch, 5 x Gigabit Ports, Fanless, 10 Gbps Switching Fabric, Lifetime Protection, Black, TEG-S50g

Pros: Worked flawlessly (for two years) Great price

Cons: Has been sitting on the shelf, unmoved, well ventilated, since I bought it. Then all connectivity went down a few days ago. Checked a few other things, then noticed the switch - all LEDS dim and blinking rapidly together. Tried unplugging, power supply checked out fine with multi-meter, etc. All networking components on UPSs and there were no surges. Poof. It's dead, Jim! My 15 year old 16 port SMC switch is still going strong......

TUF apparently doesnt include the backplate

ASUS TUF B450-PLUS GAMING AM4 AMD B450 USB 3.1 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard
ASUS TUF B450-PLUS GAMING AM4 AMD B450 USB 3.1 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: NewEgg was AWESOME about the replacement. Long live NE! Board didnt break in half when I took it out of the box Got the DDR4 in place without the RAM slots breaking

Cons: I start screwing in the 4th screw of the Wraith cooler, and the threaded socket pops off the backplate. It didnt even get to the point of being tight, just the upward pressure of the screw springs caused it to break off when I stopped pressing down on the screw. Being that I didnt have a spare AM4 backplate, I had to get the mobo replaced because it kills the build with a lopsided cooler. Ive built a lot of machines over 25 years and this is a first for me. Not even with super cheap boards. So, it is obviously not a very "TUF" backplate. Hopefully, most everything else is a bit tougher. Guess we'll see.....

Failed after about 13 months

Sennheiser HD439 Over-Ear Headphones
Sennheiser HD439 Over-Ear Headphones

Pros: Good sound quality Comfortable

Cons: Failed after just over one year of light usage!

Overall Review: I have multiple pairs of Sony headphones going on 25-30 years (including an original pair of V6s) that all still work flawlessly except for obvious wear/tear on the pads, etc. These 439s were purchased for my Daughter for computer use (not mobile use) Xmas '14. Last week she told me they started sounding "funny/echo'y". I assumed she had just inadvertently turned on some cheesy effect in the sound card settings. But, I looked in to it, and it is bizarre. These headphones obviously have some audio processing circuitry - that has failed. Everything played through them (computer, music on phone, MP3 player, etc) sounds like the surround channel of a DTS mix. It very reverb/delay-y with the vocals barely there (no center channel) and no bottom end (no sub). Like I said, exactly like surround channels would be in a 5.1 track. But, they are of course out of warranty. She loved them, but I should have just stuck with Sony, I guess.

GSkill failure rate way too high

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin PC RAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL10D-16GBXL

Pros: Price Lifetime warranty

Cons: Failed in less than a year Needed to RMA it

Overall Review: Failed within 1 to 2 years like most of my other GSkill RAM.

Received defective unit

Hanns-G 20" Active Matrix, TFT LCD LCD Monitor 5 ms D-Sub, HDMI HH201HPB
Hanns-G 20" Active Matrix, TFT LCD LCD Monitor 5 ms D-Sub, HDMI HH201HPB

Pros: It was cheap.

Cons: Unit was defective.

Overall Review: I normally just stick to only Samsung and Acer, but I couldn't pass up the sale price on this monitor. A few minutes after turning it on, a bright blue vertical line appeared down the entire right side of the monitor - about half a inch from the edge. Did the same thing with a second computer and a laptop. Seemed nice otherwise with no dead pixels....but RMA'd it. Not NewEggs fault. Should have stuck with what I know and love!
