Quality with traditional layout
Pros: * Nice tactile feedback without being too noisy * Traditional IBM PC layout plus the three Windows keys * Lightweight (can be placed on one's lap) * Compact (about 6-1/4" deep at the widest point)
Cons: Top row keys (function keys, ESC, and so on) are smaller than normal. I suppose not as many users take advantage of these as in the DOS days. Perhaps the keyboard would not be as compact or lightweight if they were made full-size.
Overall Review: There is no visible logo as shown in Newegg's picture, a definite plus in my book.
Workhorse device
Pros: * Flexible firewall options. * DSL connection is reliable. * Pushbutton to enable/disable wireless features. * Surprisingly good wireless coverage, considering that there is no external antenna.
Cons: WiFi Protected Setup did not work for me with a relatively new HP laptop. It's impossible to tell which device might be at fault. In any case, the traditional method of typing in the pass-phrase on the laptop worked with no problem. No provision to add an external antenna. Relatively slow to power up and establish the DSL connection (sometimes 60+ seconds). This is the only area where the DGN3500 is noticeably inferior to my ancient Westell modem.
Overall Review: Great for people who want to ditch their carrier-supplied equipment for a single, modern box with a minimum of wires. I primarily use the wired connections. The wireless seems reliable everywhere inside and outside my small single-story house. The device sits vertically on a desktop; no need to elevate it to improve coverage.
