Perfect for Windows 8

Acer T232HLbmidz Black 23" 5ms HDMI Touchscreen LED Monitor; 10-pt Capacitive Touch (5,000:1) w/ Speakers
Acer T232HLbmidz Black 23" 5ms HDMI Touchscreen LED Monitor; 10-pt Capacitive Touch (5,000:1) w/ Speakers

Pros: Clear, bright and responsive to touch. Love the ability to lay it nearly flat. Set up with zero fuss. Feels like the future.

Cons: Very minor: doesn't have a Start button like the Windows 8 tablets.

Overall Review: When I use this with the Maps app or viewing photos (with my fast computer) I feel like I'm in a Science Fiction movie, it is really frigging cool. To address some negatives I read in other reviews before buying: the bezel is wide to allow touch gestures that drag starting off-screen, something necessary for Windows 8. If there was custom gesture software from Acer I would not install it -- the point here is to have a Windows 8 experience, and the customization must come from that. Also Windows 8 did identify the monitor correctly. I don't write reviews much, and I don't particularly care for Acer, but they nailed the Windows 8 touchscreen experience.

Most Critical Review

Ok Software, Bad License

iolo DriveScrubber
iolo DriveScrubber

Pros: It does work.

Cons: Software has a cumbersome license that must be authenticated by the internet. They do not tell you this anywhere prior to purchase, but the license keys will expire. If you install it on one computer and wait a year before installing it on another computer, it might not work (it did not for me). The licenses are also not transferable, so a new computer means purchasing new software. I got the runaround from the manufacturer.

Overall Review: Out of frustration I went to Sourceforge and found and downloaded an open-source program for free (search for Eraser there). It works just as well, possibly better, and no runaround. I don't mind paying for software, but if you buy Photoshop or Microsoft Word you can transfer the license to another computer, and the license doesn't go bad.

Google Play Store Works Perfectly, Extremely Good Value

Nextbook 7" Android Tablet - Dual Core 1.50Ghz 1GB RAM 8GB Flash, Android 4.1 GMS (M7000NBD)
Nextbook 7" Android Tablet - Dual Core 1.50Ghz 1GB RAM 8GB Flash, Android 4.1 GMS (M7000NBD)

Pros: * Google Play Store works fine! Chrome update fine. I don't know what a previous reviewer was complaining about, but I can install all my major apps. * Screen is bright and clear. * Videos play well. * Touch is responsive (and multitouch). * Battery life is acceptable. * Very quick. * SD slot. * Every app tried so far works well. * Nice looking

Cons: * Battery life only ok (two movies). * If you look at the screen at too much of an angle, it loses quality.

Overall Review: This tablet represents extreme value. I bought it to use at the gym so I don't have to risk my Nexus 7, and was surprised at how good it is. It is fast, runs every app I've tried (Netflix, Chrome, Hulu Plus, games), and looks great. Another reviewer mentioned not Google Compatible, they are wrong, I just upgraded Chrome, and have already installed many apps from the Google Play Store. Yes, the Nexus 7 in nicer, but also four times the price. I looked around at budget tablets before getting this one, and was shocked at how good it was for the money.

Damaged 2 Harddrives

Diablotek DA Series PSDA300 300 W ATX12V v2.31 Power Supply
Diablotek DA Series PSDA300 300 W ATX12V v2.31 Power Supply

Pros: Taught me a lesson about cheap off-brand PSU's.

Cons: Bought this to make a cheap secondary computer. I had a few problems with the build, but I assumed it was the motherboard, and after a few tries got Windows installed. Several months later the system began hanging, and I received hardrive sector errors. Eventually I replaced the power supply with a decent brand. I was then able to reinstall Windows no problem, all the problems I associated with the motherboard went away. However the original harddrives I had installed had unrecoverable errors and were damaged beyond repair. This bad choice of a PSU cost me a fortune in damaged hardware. I won't make that mistake again.

Works, eSATA

TOSHIBA 2TB USB 2.0 / eSATA 3.5" External Hard Drive PH3200U-1EXB Black
TOSHIBA 2TB USB 2.0 / eSATA 3.5" External Hard Drive PH3200U-1EXB Black

Pros: It works. eSATA is fast enough if you have a connection on your computer. Price.

Cons: Form factor is a bit odd. Junk software included.

Overall Review: The moment you get this drive, reformat to NTFS. Do NOT run the software provided, it has weird ideas about how a HD should be set up.

Poor Reviewer Doesn't Get It

IronKey 8GB Flash Drive (USB2.0 Portable) Hardware-based encryption D20802
IronKey 8GB Flash Drive (USB2.0 Portable) Hardware-based encryption D20802

Pros: First off, I own several Ironkeys, and recommended this to my boss (who bought and was thrilled). The reviewer here who gives it one star and makes sarcastic comments a) has no right to comment because he doesn't own one, and b) completely misses the point. The device hardware encrypts data, and has other physical safeguards. A software encrypted volume can be eventually cracked by the right software, this device cannot. My boss had his USB thumbdrive stolen with sensitive corporate data, this caused a huge problem (eventually recovered, but at great cost). What you get is peace-of-mind, which is priceless.

Cons: Add on software you need to install yourself, so if you want an on-key word processor, for example, you need a little tech knowledge.

Overall Review: People who write reviews should own the product. Reviews from such people should be removed. Note I do not work for and am not associated with Ironkey in any way, I just appreciate excellent technology.
