Another DOA: Update

MSI P6N SLI Platinum LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard
MSI P6N SLI Platinum LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Same as the last review.

Cons: Same as the last review.

Overall Review: Just thought I would give my 2 cents worth seeing how someone else got a DOA board. Like I said before, MSI must of had a bad lot run on this mb. Those were the same symptoms as my first board except that mine booted into the bios settings at first and then frozed and died. No LEDs. The only thing that was working were my fans. So far so good with the second board. I hope your second board works out A-OK for you. This was the first time I ever received something bad from MSI and I've built a few systems using their boards without any problems with them to date.

Most Critical Review

Not so great after all

Corsair Force Series GS 2.5" 360GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CSSD-F360GBGS-BK
Corsair Force Series GS 2.5" 360GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CSSD-F360GBGS-BK

Pros: Fast, quiet

Cons: Crashes daily. Bios stops seeing it. Have to do a complete power down for it to work again. Fails updating its firmware and at cloning it.

Overall Review: I initially gave this 5 stars back when I bought it because I was astonished by its speed. It was great for awhile and then it would crash once a week and now its almost a daily thing. My screen freezes or its the bsod. When I would reboot and go into the bios it would be the same thing, no ssd listed. The only way to get it recognized by the bios again was to do a complete power down. When trying to update its firmware it fails. I can't even clone this drive. I tried 3 different cloning software (including Corsairs Toolbox) and they all failed. I'm basically ready to go back to the hard drives.

Nice looking board, but...

GIGABYTE Z790 AORUS ELITE AX LGA 1700 Intel Z790 ATX Motherboard with DDR5, Quad M.2, PCIe 5.0, USB 3.2 Gen2X2 Type-C, Intel WiFi 6E, 2.5GbE LAN, Q-Flash Plus, PCIe EZ-Latch
GIGABYTE Z790 AORUS ELITE AX LGA 1700 Intel Z790 ATX Motherboard with DDR5, Quad M.2, PCIe 5.0, USB 3.2 Gen2X2 Type-C, Intel WiFi 6E, 2.5GbE LAN, Q-Flash Plus, PCIe EZ-Latch

Pros: Sharp looking Nice heatsinks for the power supply and M.2 ssd socket PCIe 5 socket Handles DDR5 6000 and up

Cons: Bad on-board Bluetooth On-board audio could be better

Overall Review: Nice looking board, but there are some issues. The main issue I am having is the on-board Bluetooth will not pair most of the time with my Skullcandy headphones. When it would pair on those rare occasions, and I would have to manually pair them, the audio would continually cut-out. I have tried tinkering with the settings, updating its driver, etc. off and on for a month now to no avail. I plug in my Asus USB Bluetooth from my previous build, disable the Intel Bluetooth and Wham, within 5 seconds they pair and connect on their own. The audio is also not that great. No matter what I was able to adjust it always had a slight tinny sound to it. I ended up installing a decent sound card.

Driver issue

EVGA SuperClocked 01G-P3-1463-KR GeForce GTX 560 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
EVGA SuperClocked 01G-P3-1463-KR GeForce GTX 560 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Pros: Works great when you finally get the drivers installed.

Cons: Nvidia driver issues. Lack of proper instructions from Nvidia.

Overall Review: Luckily I found some input from the EVGA forum on how to properly uninstall Nvidia drivers in Windows 7. I ended up having to reload my operating system. With no old drivers to uninstall the new drivers installed easily. Make sure to use a program like Driver Fusion to thoroughly remove any older Nvidia drivers before installing the new drivers or you are going to have driver install failures.

Another DOA: update

MSI P6N SLI Platinum LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard
MSI P6N SLI Platinum LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Good layout, heat pipes. 3 PCI slots, 2 IDEs, easy to overclock cpu and memeory.

Cons: No mounting hardware again. Included utilities are not the greatest.

Overall Review: First board was a total DOA. Received the 2nd board on the 16th and it booted right up. Has been running solid now for the past week with scores of stress tests being run. I still might have to RMA it since the BIOS is reporting bad 64k base memory (3 beeps). Memory is good. Has been tested and swapped out. I'm having a difficult time updating the BIOS. This could fix the problem once I get it updated. Thanks to Newegg for allowing me to return the first board for refund without charge. This allowed me to reorder it to speed up the replacement process.

ASUS Triton 75 CPU Heatsink

Pros: Light weight, good machining on heat sink (true surface), easy to mount. Accomodates 120mm fan.

Cons: None yet.

Overall Review: This has to be the best heat sink I have used yet. Required very little lapping. Very light for it's size. Easy installation on 775 mb. CPU temps: 25c idle, 35c normal load, 47c w/cpu fully stressed tested. CPU: Core 2 Duo E4500 oc'ed to 3.1g.
