Pros: The price and the software that comes along with it. I used another brand of Hard Drive and they detected just fine. Western Digital has made this unit capable of running without communicating with their servers. It gives a great deal of freedom, which I love. You just have to be willing to spend the time setting it up. This unit also gives you ssh access(as of this writing). I have used this to determine the load and to kill processes and disable certain services. You could use this access to do a lot of other things. iSCSI is nice as well. Even though this unit does have some performance issues. I have had no trouble streaming video from the device.
Cons: Performance. In the next edition hopefully they will upgrade the guts.
Overall Review: I am happy with this unit, and with iSCSI you can do a lot. I have created a few virtual drives to house VM's and will probably try and tie a couple of hosts back to this device. For the price this is an interesting unit. I have looked at setting up FreeNAS. I have also looked at some of the other NAS units. The big problem is trying to tie back to your data and this unit does a lot of the hard work for you in that department.
Pros: Well constructed, quiet, and a good pickup for 24 ports at gig speeds. It has a Backbound Bandwidth: 48 Gbps and also supports flow control.
Cons: None.
Overall Review: Wish this switch had LACP support but for the price it is a great grab.
