GIGABYTE Radeon HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 CrossFireX Support Graphics Card GV-R485ZL-512H
GIGABYTE Radeon HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 CrossFireX Support Graphics Card GV-R485ZL-512H

Pros: Since most people are buying this model bc of the hs/fan I thought I would share my experience with it. First of all, it is smaller than it looks in the picture. It does take up two slots but there is room to put a sound card etc. below it and still have decent airflow. With a room temp of 25c (77f) the card registered 39c idle, 59c under full load with no fan nearby blowing on it. i was able to add a low cfm fan about 6 inches away from it and the load temp went down to 52c after 2 hours of gaming. With my case buttoned up and zero effort made to adjust fan speed I would call the noise created minimal.

Cons: none.

Overall Review: I purchased the card due to heat and noise issues of my previous card (2900xt). I've seen a moderate (20% on average) increase in performance at the resolution I game at (1680x1050) and a substantial improvement in temperature and sound. The packaging is decent and it even comes with a DVI-HDMI converter.

Very happy

Definitive Technology ProCinema 60 5.1 CH Home Audio Speaker System
Definitive Technology ProCinema 60 5.1 CH Home Audio Speaker System

Pros: Great sound for a smaller size room. I ended up using the subwoofer in a 2.1 setup in my bedroom and it sounds GREAT. I took the left over 2 speakers and paired them with a Lepai 2020+ amp and made a little MP3/iPad/iPhone dock. Terrific sound. Really crisp and clear.

Cons: The satellite speakers are lacking in base as you might expect but I did find that if I turned up the base to max on the input device they can actually get to a satisfactory level.

Discontinued?!?!? KAAAAAAHHHHNNN!

Pioneer SP-BS21-LR Bookshelf Loudspeakers Pair
Pioneer SP-BS21-LR Bookshelf Loudspeakers Pair

Pros: How sad. Discontinued. These speakers on sale lately have been the deal of the decade so far. Outstanding full sound. Great when paired up with a cheap Chinese amp (Lepai2020+) or an old receiver to create an Ipad/Android/Iphone etc. music listening station.

Cons: They are big considering the size of the woofer is only 4" but they will still fit on a bookshelf.

Overall Review: I got these on Black Friday for $40 shipped. I was so impressed I ended up buying 5 more pairs for friends for the holidays to help them create makeshift music stations. Great deal. A+ job by Pioneer.

Decent case

LIAN LI Lancool PC-K59 Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
LIAN LI Lancool PC-K59 Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: Large, flexible, good cable management, nice review available on silentpcreview, price if you can get it on sale, no mail in rebate, USB 3.0, removable HD cages allow for large GPUs and/or better air flow, space up top for water cooling and although it is plastic, the fit and finish of the exterior is good.

Cons: Flimsy HD cages, dust filters work so well at filtering dust they restrict air flow and inhibit cooling, 120mm fan in rear noisy at full speed compared to the front 140mm fans, heavy, large (larger than an Antec 300 for reference) which I like but might be a negative for some.

Overall Review: I pulled the trigger when I could get it for $52 after a coupon. I also purchased a N82E16835233086 for $10 to put up top. Frankly, it doesn't move much air but it is quiet. Probably not worth the additional expense. I covered the other 140mm top opening, lowered the rpms of the rear fan, removed the top HD cage and wedged foam around the bottom HD cage to remove rattles. Very silent. Cools well and if I remove the front dust filters it lowers GPU (XFX 6950 1gb) temps another 6c at load. With the exception of the HD cages the build quality is nice for a $60ish case. I have also gotten used to the looks of it and kind of like it. I thought it was funny looking at first. I have it on the floor so the top configured power/reset/USB come in handy. Overall it is very functional, easy to build in, has great cable management and allows for nice upgrade potential.

BIOSTAR TA785G3HD AM3 AMD 785G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
BIOSTAR TA785G3HD AM3 AMD 785G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Price, 3 fan headers, HDMI, ACC for attempting to unlock cores, 140w capable for future upgrades. Clearly a Biostar higher end model (black pcb, gimpy reset and pwr buttons on board for testing ease, fancy boot up screen which makes me smile) at a reasonable price.

Cons: Went to free shipping on the item the day after I bought it, sata connectors seem flimsy and there are no low profile ones that hang off the side of the board to make cable management easier.

Overall Review: Seems like a very nice MATX board so far. I'm guessing Biostar/Newegg are trying to clear out inventory of older 785 chipset boards to make way for even more 8** boards. Makes for a nice deal for those of us not needing sata 6 or USB 3.0.

Rosewill RHM-556 3.5mm Connector Circumaural Headset
Rosewill RHM-556 3.5mm Connector Circumaural Headset

Pros: Low cost (ten with free shipping)

Cons: Very small ear pieces.

Overall Review: Decent sound quality for the price. The mic sounds great to others. If you are on a budget or are looking for a backup headset you could do a lot worse. Probably not the greatest for long gaming sessions.
