Updated Review
Pros: Solid board - good features and performance at an inexpensive price.
Cons: None.
Overall Review: Update of my earlier review on March 25. Still 5 eggs. A year of daily use and still no problems. I installed the Windows 7 RC 64-bit in a dual-boot setup with my existing XP. Win 7 found all necessary drivers for the board to get it up and running. Performance with the new OS is very good - fast and stable. The Aero video interface runs smoothly - better than I would have expected for on-board video.
Perfect
Pros: Fast. Real powerhouse in the POE department. Fan-cooled power supply is internal, so it uses a real power cord, not a wall wart. Sturdy metal case. Separate indicator lights to show when a POE device is connected to a particular port.
Cons: None
Overall Review: 240 watts from a box this small needs some forced-air cooling. Some might consider the fan a bit loud - indeed, you probably wouldn't want to install this in a living space. I have mine in a hall closet and the fan noise is barely audible when the closet door is closed.
Very Good
Pros: Very stable, very fast. Runs cool with low power consumption. Very compact size for its capabilities - important if someone wishes to mount it in a structured wiring cabinet.
Cons: None
Overall Review: The first step I took was to upgrade the firmware. The version was fairly recent, so maybe Cisco worked out some of the problems that other reviewers had in the past. I don't use the VPN capabilities, so I can't evaluate that function. There are a bewildering amount of options in the setup, many of which are probably only familiar to a network engineer (certainly not me!), but the router works "out-of-the-box" with the default settings, to get you up and running quickly (when used with Comcast ISP anyway). The price has more than doubled since I purchased mine in early February (2015). For once, maybe I had luck on my side?
Great Deal
Pros: Very sturdy. Spacious interior and good cooling with quiet fans included. Solid motherboard mounting. Attractive exterior. Plenty of drive bays for most uses. Front panel USB, firewire and audio jacks are convienent. No cheesy press-fit plastic drive bay covers to cave in - these are steel and bolted in place. Price - see below.
Cons: Absolutely none.
Overall Review: This has to be one of the best deals going on a mid-tower case. Despite the low price, there is no "cheap" feel to it. Since it's sold without a power supply, you can "pick your poison" as to brand and capacity.
Excellent Board
Pros: Excellent board - stable, reliable and full of features at a very attractive price. Even the on-board video is excellent.
Cons: None really.
Overall Review: In operation and used daily for 8 months and counting without any hiccups. Equipped with a Core2-Duo 3.16ghz processor and 4 gigs of Kingston DDR2-800 1.8v ValueRAM, it is very quick and responsive. I used the Antec TruePower Trio 430-W PSU; that, combined with Intel's fan speed controls, has resulted in a nearly silent, cool running PC with low power consumption. Haven't used the PATA - SATA drives are inexpensive and have much better throughput than the old stuff anyway - not to mention the easier cabling. Entire build, with everything new (from Newegg, of course!) was under $600. Lots of bang for the buck.
Fast and Priced Right
Pros: Fast, stable and cool-running at stock settings. A bargain for a dual-core processor with this level of performance. When enabled, the Cool and Quiet feature keeps the processor nearly 10 degrees cooler during light loading, and it ramps up instantly when needed.
Cons: None
Overall Review: As long as the intense competetion between Intel and AMD continues, we'll all keep reaping the benefits. I like and use both.
