ASRock Z87 Extreme11/ac LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Extended ATX Intel Motherboard

3 out of 5 eggs Great board except one glaring issue 05/02/2014

This review is from: ASRock Z87 Extreme11/ac LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Extended ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: So many features. Apart from the serious problems I am having with it (see below) this is a good board. I still haven't gotten to explore all the features there are so many. It is fast and with Windows 8.1 it boots very quickly. The UEFI is fantastic. I have never had a board with such level of control.

Cons: I am on my second board and it has the same issue as the first. I have 16 hard drives attached to it and I believe there are issues with the chipset or something. Drives randomly get dropped frequently and I cannot figure out why. I have verified the cables and drives themselves are fine. I have read about other boards with the z87 chipset having similar issues. Something to do with SATA compliance and older drives. I am still researching it and trying to get ASRock to respond but their customer support is a joke. You can only email them and they take days to respond. They obviously have no interest in providing support to customer and consistently urge you to solve technical issue with the retailer. This may be my last ASRock board because of that.

Other Thoughts: I really have a love hate relationship with this board. I really want it to work but I may have to end up going a different route if I cannot get things working. What's the point of having a board with 22 SATA ports if you can't use them? I use it as a NAS server with dual parity. Having drive dropping constantly is unacceptable.

Rosewill RTK-PST - Digital LCD Power Supply Tester
  • Verified Owner
  • neweggOwned For: more than 1 year

Pros: Solid, doesn't feel cheap, inexpensive. Works just as I expected

Cons: Can't think of any.

Other Thoughts: Also useful to apply a load to a power supply, without using a jumper pin or wire, if you need to power something other than a motherboard .

SteelSeries Merc Stealth Backlit Programmable Gaming Keyboard
  • Verified Owner
  • neweggOwned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: Back lit, more ergonomic than normal wasd. I bought this because I had a previous one but wanted a backlit one. Very cheap. I love the layout of the keys because I cannot stand normal wasd configurations.

Cons: I don't like the number pad layout, nor the fact that you have to switch the numlock function to use the other key functions such as del. Can be pretty long if your desk has limited space for a keyboard.

Other Thoughts: I am not that picky about my keyboard switches like others.
