Very slick unit

Pros: The unit is very well designed. It allows you to remove a hard without much hassle. The mechanism to release the drive is easy enough to use, but cannot be tripped accidentally.
Cons: It would be nice if hard drive replacement in the bracket could be made quicker. You have to screw the drive into the bracket. It would be nice if they came up with a way so you didn't have to use screws; just snap out the old drive, snap in the new and just push it back into the module. This isn't really a big con, certainly not worth deducting any eggs. But if anybody at Icy Dock reads these things, this would be a very nice feature.
Ordered 3, all defective

Pros: Large Size, relatively good price.
Cons: I ordered 3 of these and every single one is defective. 2 come up with the ST3_INVALID_PFM error during bootup and hangs when the BIOS tries to report the size of the drive. The third identifies itself properly, but still hangs when the BIOS tries to report the size of the drive.
Overall Review: This is not what I've come to expect from Seagate. I've owned many of their drives since 1991, and have been extremely satisfied. In fact, I've only had one fail on me, and that was a 13-year-old IDE drive (from 1991 in fact) that finally suffered a head crash. My business standardized on Seagate 6 years ago. Those drives from 6 years ago are still in working order. I'm very disappointed in Seagate right now. Based on what I've read, and the comparisons I've made between the different 1TB drives from different manufacturers, it looks like the technology is too new at this point. It looks like all of the drive manufacturers have a way to go before perfecting the 1TB drive. I keep reading about the same type of problems on all of the 1TB drives, regardless of manufacturer. I'm returning these drives for a refund, and I'll wait for the next generation before trying again.
Great little unit

Pros: Solid construction, substantial, dissipates heat well, relatively easy installation at a very nice price. I have three of these things, and I've never had a problem with them. Whenever I need a new external drive I get one of these babies. They're great! I use the Firewire (IEEE1394) connector, and they always perform well.
Cons: The indicator light is a little bright. It's not worth deducting an egg, but if you're sitting in an otherwise dark room with one of these on, you could almost read a book by the light of the indicator light.
Overall good value

Pros: Great small size 1U rackmount chassis if all you need is a small case with only one hard drive.
Cons: There is space for two hard drives, but it's very difficult to fit two drives in there. One drive fits fine, but it's still a bit of a challenge to get it in, especially if you have big fingers. Part of the problem with getting a second drive in there is the old style Molex power connectors for the hard drives. I had problems with the Molex to SATA power adapter getting in the way of at least one of the mounting screw holes for the hard drive, making it virtually impossible to seat the drive properly. It seemed the only way for the power wires/adapter to go was under the hard drive (which isn't such a good idea anyway). It also made it so the case would not close properly.
Overall Review: Others have mentioned that the front panel connector is proprietary Supermicro, meaning that it is a single connector that fits the panel pins on Supermicro motherboards perfectly. This is only a drawback if you use motherboards other than Supermicro. Since I use Supermicro motherboards exclusively for my servers, I consider this an advantage rather than a drawback.
This thing is genius!

Pros: Extremely easy setup. The computer side has hookups so you can hook up the local Monitor, Keyboard and Mouse as well as the remote. Very handy! Very well constructed.
Cons: The video quality on the remote side isn't that great, even on an LCD monitor. If you have an application with small on-screen characters, readability could become a problem. This system was running at 1024x768, and the text was bold Arial at 10pt size (I believe). It was marginally readable. Fortunately for us it wasn't critical to be able to read that text. But if it were, and the text was any smaller, we would have needed to reduce the screen resolution. The video quality is the only reason I'm giving this 4 eggs instead of 5.
Overall Review: We used it to control a computerized light show at a dance with the control computer being located in the DJ booth and the Light Man (remote site) located next to the dance floor. We used 25' of CAT5 LAN cable. It survived 9 straight hours of active use, and it worked like a charm! It really made a difference. I have yet to be disappointed with Belkin products. They are well worth the little extra you pay in quality.
