Just upgraded from a 1090T

AMD FX-8350 Black Edition Vishera 8-Core 4.0 GHz (4.2 GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W FD8350FRHKBOX Desktop Processor
AMD FX-8350 Black Edition Vishera 8-Core 4.0 GHz (4.2 GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W FD8350FRHKBOX Desktop Processor

Pros: Significantly higher framerates from my 1090T in certain games. Over 20% FPS increase in BF4, Deadspace 3, Brink, BF3.

Cons: Half of the games I play did not receive any FPS increase, or maybe ~3% increase, these games include FarCry 3, Metro LL, Crysis 3.

Overall Review: My 1090T was running at 3.6Ghz, and my Unigine FPS was 36.5, with the FX8350 at 4.4Ghz, I got 39FPS, not much of a difference there. My metro LL benchmarking tool was 28.3FPS with 1090T and 31.1FPS with FX8350. However, in BF4, it raised my framerate from an average of ~60 on 1080 Ultra to an average of 80. 990FXA-ud3 [email protected] Samsung 840 480GB SSD 8GB G. Skill Sniper 1600 EVGA GTX680 2GB

Pros: The price, the possible wifi

Cons: Mine was DOA, it happens i suppose. Not worth the RMA

Almost perfect

MSI GS Series - 15.6" NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M - Intel Core i7-5700HQ - 16GB Memory - 128 GB SSD - Windows 8.1 64-Bit - Gaming Laptop - (GS60 Ghost Pro-606 )

Pros: The packaging was very impressive, you could certainly tell you were unboxing a very quality item. As I took it out of the box, and held it in my hands, I definitely noticed that it was awfully light, so light in fact, that I thought the battery was not installed in it yet, and continued to search for it within the box. This was not the case however, the battery comes already installed and this machine is shockingly light. I then went open the lid of the laptop, which was enough to feel the quality of the machine right there, the quality of the hinges was apparent from opening it one time. I removed all the plastic wrappers from all the surfaces, and pressed the power button, the battery came dead, maybe through some shipping technicality, or it was a goof. Either way, plugged in the charger, and it fired right up. The screen is far better than I was expecting. I had previously owned a 970M GT72 Doninator, and I assumed it was using the same panel, but absolutely not, this one blows it away with its seemingly unlimited viewing angles and amazing colors. I downloaded some games, and being that it has a GTX970m, there was no problem playing BF3/4 and Arma 3 and high or higher settings at 60+ FPS @ 1080p. The speakers are quite above average as well, amazingly loud, and crisp at those high volumes, I am very pleased with the audio.

Cons: Obviously battery life, but you know what you are getting into when you buy a laptop like this. But here is my biggest beef with this laptop, and the only reason I do not absolutely love it. The fans seem to be spinning quite high nearly all the time, it is always quite audible. Just browsing youtube videos it relatively unpleasant because of the noise that it produces. It will rev up the fans for seemingly no reason. However, at least I can say that the fans do not sound like little screaming fans, but almost sound like wind blowing through trees, its actually mildly pleasant, which is impressive that they were able to achieve those acoustics in this laptops fans which are inevitably small.

Overall Review: I love the addition of the above-average quality zippered laptop case that it comes with as well, I did not know I was going to be getting it. Fantastic machine, my real rating would be 9/10 if that were an option, however 4/5 sounds low, so I am going with 5/5. I wouldnt really hesitate on buying this laptop if you are considering it.

Can't go wrong with a Gigabyte board

GIGABYTE GA-X99-UD3 LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
GIGABYTE GA-X99-UD3 LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Cheap for an X99 board, yet still have a fantastic amount of features. Love the UEFI on it, overclock is nice and organized with this board. Gigabyte boards have a distinctive quality about them that you can feel when handling them.

Cons: Had to update BIOS before I could do anything, it wouldnt even let me go above 30% GPU usage on a 980 without updating bios from the revision 1 that it comes with. Once I updated bios to v6, the latest version, it reboots 25% of the time on startup in order to get into windows, and then resets my OC everytime it does that random hard reset. Incredibly annoying. Not that this matters too much, but the board is not exactly the aesthetic center piece of your rig, quite bland.

Overall Review: Other than that BIOS bug, this board is great.

Fantastic

CORSAIR Hydro Series H60 (CW-9060007-WW) High Performance Water / Liquid CPU Cooler. 120mm
CORSAIR Hydro Series H60 (CW-9060007-WW) High Performance Water / Liquid CPU Cooler. 120mm

Pros: Provides excellent cooling for my 5820K running 4.2 - 1.25V, maxing out at ~72 in Aida64. It comes with far more accessories and attachments than you will ever need. Very easy to install and fits just fine in my Corsair Carbide Spec 03

Cons: The only thing I can think of is the hoses are very stiff, making them very difficult to work with like pushing them up to put a GPU in your top PCIe lane.

Seems ok

EVGA GeForce GTX 980 04G-P4-2980-KR 4GB GAMING, Silent Cooling Graphics Card
EVGA GeForce GTX 980 04G-P4-2980-KR 4GB GAMING, Silent Cooling Graphics Card

Pros: Realistically, it is a great card, there is nothing wrong with this card. The reference cooler is fine for Maxwell chips. I love the back plate as well as the 4GB buffer

Cons: Here is my only beef, and I am not going to take off eggs for it because I sort of knew what I was getting into. I am coming from a 780Ti, which is faster clock for clock than a 980, I had my 780Ti running at 1300Mhz which is slightly faster than a 980 running at ~1400Mhz, which is what I am running this 980 at. So basically, it was not worth the "sidegrade" from a 780Ti. If the 780Ti had 4GB instead of 3GB, it would be the winner IMO. The only thing the 980 has going for it is the 4GB.

Overall Review: Fantastic card, but a 780Ti for 140$ less, which there are a couple of on Newegg, is a much better option. I am still using my Classified 780Ti in my primary rig, and my 980 in my secondary rig because of the difference in performance, especially in the games I play, Arma 3, and DayZ. Keep in mind this only applies to super high clocked 780Ti's, like 1250Mhz and up.
