Quality Monitor - Bad Packaging - Many Defects
Pros: -Great color (at least on two out of five of the monitors that I received) -High quality stand -Displayport input -Cheap -Nice OSD and OSD accessible configuration options. For example the monitor lets you choose a default input and the behaviour when plugging in a new input (should it automatically switch to the new source?)
Cons: -Three out of the five monitors that I ended up receiving needed to be returned due to various defects. These defects included the screen being very dim, colors having a reddish tint, dark spots on the LCD due to LCD damage and scratches to the surface of the LCD -The packaging for this product was terrible. It came with foam specially designed to fit the monitor and the box. The foam can actually touch the surface of the LCD during shipping which I don't think actually contributed to damage but generally isn't done. The box was barely taped together - on two of the boxes I received the tape was partially broken leaving the box barely hanging together. The biggest problem with the packaging was the cables which were left to rattle around freely in the box. This is likely what cause the LCD damage and scratches to the LCD surface that I saw on the majority of the monitors that I received. -The stand doesn't allow the screen to sit perfectly horizontal. You would never notice this unelss you try to have multples screens sitting directly next to each other. This was consistent on every monitor that I received and appears to be a design flaw. -The stand is slightly wider than the LCD panel when in portrait mode. This wasn't a problem for me but could be a problem if you wanted to have multple monitors in protrait mode directly next to each other. -I definitely wouldn't consider these monitors refurbished in comparison to other refurbished products I have received from other vendors. One of the monitors I received had a particularly reddish and dim LCD. If this were truly a refurbished product the CCFL tubes on that monitor would have been replaced and the screen would have been great. One of the monitors even had a dusty boot print on the stand of the monitor when I removed it from the box. -These monitors were listed as "Grade A" which I also feel is misleading. That said, I couldn't find a definition of Newegg's refurbishment grades so for all I know there are "Grade AAA" products meaning that these monitors aren't the top grade and some defects were to be expected.
Overall Review: -Due to Newegg's default policy of making you cover return shipping for defective items I ended up purchasing Newegg premier to get the free return shipping labels. I know if I hassled customer service for free return shipping label I probably would have received it but hassling customer service is also a hassle for me. -I would advise against purchasing multiples of these monitors to use in a multiple monitor configuration. When put side-by-side you are likely to get monitors that have very different brightnesses and color tints.
Memory density is not as shown in the item's picture
Pros: Fast memory according to the specs and a decent price
Cons: The memory I received is not what was shown in the picture for this item. The memory shown in the picture shows 16 memory chips per module. The memory I received has only 8 memory chips per module. The computer I intended to put this memory into doesn't support memory densities higher than 256mb/chip so because of this incorrect picture I am left with memory that is useless to me. Now to start the RMA process, hopefully Newegg doesn't make me pay return shipping for a misrepresented product...
