some nice features for a budget laptop
Pros: VGA port, 2 USB 3.0 ports, power port, price
Cons: none really
Overall Review: I have this model except for a different CPU. This is a budget laptop and is not super slim or light. I like the fact that, in addition to HDMI, it has a VGA port so you can connect to an older monitor. I really like the solid power port. The typical laptop ports with little round connectors were too easy to break for a klutz like me and a nightmare to get fixed. One memory slot is open and it is very easy to get to, just remove 2 screws in the battery compartment and slide the bottom cover forward. The speakers sound fine to me, considering this is a laptop, but I'm not a discriminating audio guy.
Not quite right
Pros: Looks good and great specs for the shell shocker price I paid.
Cons: It fired up and seemed OK until my son tried some internet gaming - League of Legends. We've never had any good gaming machines in the house but he complained that the performance was very bad even by our standards. I checked the performance using the utility in the Windows 7 control panel. Here are my results (first) and those shown in a previous Newegg review by Drk5ide (second): CPU 3.5/6.9, RAM 4.9/5.9, GPU 4.4/4.7, gaming 4.5/5.3, hard disk 5.9/5.9. No idea why and it's on its way back to Newegg.
Overall Review: Comes with no documentation and it's difficult to find if for this model. The Asus support site has a manual but it's a short, generic one that will tell you where the USB ports probably are on the model somewhat like yours. Asus site does not have specs for this model. If you think it has Express Gate you'll want to try to figure out which key starts it. You can get a head start by using the pictures on this site.
Pros: Got this to send back to college with my kid. I ran it for a few days and seemed to work just fine. It has a good finish and feel, i.e. seems to be well made. 4.5 cu. ft is pretty roomy and will hold a lot of stuff. There is no real freezer compartment so it isn't suitable for storing frozen foods for any length of time. At the higher settings it is capable of making ice cubes.
Cons: I bought this at Target as an ad special for $99 brand new. Don't know why it was so cheap. The energy usage card on the unit says that it is at the top end (high cost of operation) of the energy usage range for its comparison group. One word of warning from Target was that if you tip the unit on its side or invert it, don't turn it on immediately. Set it up and let the refrigerant drain back down for an hour or so before plugging it in. I doubt a full hour is necessary but what can it hurt?
Didn't work with Chumby One
Pros: Cheap
Cons: Didn't work for my specific application. My Chumby One did not recognize it. The Chumby is usually setup to connect wirelessly. However, some wireless security setups require a special additional authentication that the Chumby was not designed for and so a USB-ethernet adapter is required. Not all work.
Just what I needed
Pros: My home network has a combination of desktops and laptops, wired and WI-FI, XP, Vista, 7 and Ubuntu. I needed a way to use all of these without using one of them as a print server for my Laserjet 6MP. The TE100 was a great solution. Its power adapter and the printer are plugged into a power strip. When anyone wants to print a document they can turn on the power strip and in a few seconds everything is ready to go. Printing is as fast as with a hardwire parallel cable.
Cons: Fit with the HP6MP is tight. For me, setup wasn't trivial but it wasn't bad either.
Overall Review: A great way to keep a good parallel printer working when you replace your old computer with one(s) not having a parallel port(s).
Works with Ubuntu Linux
Pros: All I had to do was stick the card in a slot and attach the antenna. I'm not a very demanding user, but the card appears rock solid on my setup -- Ubuntu Linux and an old HP Pavilion 8380.
Cons: Not that I've noticed
