Good board plagued with interface and driver problems
Pros: -Good specs -Low cost -Lots of onboard options which save a lot of space in a small rig like ths, like Wifi/Bluetooth/Gigabit LAN
Cons: -Terrible BIOS. Came completely corrupted out of the box and the only options for flashing are via Windows or from inside the BIOS. Since BIOS was not functioning for me, I literally had to install Windows just to reflash the BIOS. After reflashing, the BIOS functioned but I needed to use a different monitor as it apparently struggles with 720p HDTVs (for a Mini ITX which is usually a good HTPC form factor, it should not struggle with this) Even after getting the BIOS to a functional state, the "Click BIOS" they use is terribly programmed as it will frequently detect more than one mouse click and throw you into settings areas that you did not intend. -Onboard SATA Controller or Drivers are completely broken. I have 4 hard drives plugged in and only SATA Port 1 works. Have swapped cables and drives, and seems consistent. Drives in other ports are Detected and SMART reporting shows the drives to be in a healthy state. However, tons of CRC and queueing Errors when writing to any drives in SATA Ports 2/3/4. -Cannot boot off USB drives when using Legacy RAID Rom. I don't know why this is...the USB disk is detected and can boot when the HDDs are set to AHCI mode or EUFI RAID. And speaking of RAID... -UEFI RAID Mode is broken. Disks are not detected in Windows or FreeBSD when following the "RAID SOP" guide for MSI. This guide specifies to set up the drives in the UEFI shell, which I have done, and to format to GPT, which I am not able to do because Windows 7 and FreeBSD both cannot detect the device when it is in UEFI RAID mode. If you follow the SOP, it states to run diskpart from the Windows 7 setup console. Problem is that diskpart does not detect any hard disks when doing so... even though they are detected in BIOS and configured with the UEFI shell
Overall Review: I bought this motherboard in an attempt to use it for a small, low cost, high efficiency home NAS build. What I got was 3 days of headaches in trying multiple different configurations. I don't think I will be buying any other AMD MSI boards after this (I've loved all of their Intel boards though)
