Most Favorable Review

It sure is a serial cable

KINGWIN Model RS232 5 ft. USB (M) to RS232 (M) Serial Converter Male to Male
KINGWIN Model RS232 5 ft. USB (M) to RS232 (M) Serial Converter Male to Male

Pros: It is a USB to RS232 adapter. I can finally retire an old laptop that I kept around only to program dead equipment.

Cons: The driver disc is hidden in the packaging, very easy to overlook.

Overall Review: No drivers on the website. Don't lose the disc.

Not quite what I wanted

2M MHL Micro USB To HDMI HDTV Cable Adapter For Samsung Galaxy Note3 N9000 AC164
2M MHL Micro USB To HDMI HDTV Cable Adapter For Samsung Galaxy Note3 N9000 AC164

Pros: It works.

Cons: The adapter works, but only at 15fps @ 30Hz. I wanted one to play games on my TV using a bluetooth controller and watch movies n stuff while on vacation. Video playback is quite choppy, distractingly so. Using it for web browsing, light computer/tablet use is acceptable. For the price I really can't complain. It was very cheap.

Early results are promising

WD Blue 3D NAND 1TB Internal SSD - SATA III 6Gb/s M.2 2280 Solid State Drive - WDS100T2B0B
WD Blue 3D NAND 1TB Internal SSD - SATA III 6Gb/s M.2 2280 Solid State Drive - WDS100T2B0B

Pros: Very fast, pretty good on power, excellent price, excellent performance.

Cons: So far, none related directly to the product. See other.

Overall Review: The WD version of Acronis would not clone my Dell Inspiron 7559 1TB hard drive to the WD 1TB 3D NAND Blue. Nothing I did could make it work. It would reboot, begin the process, the progress bar would never move and after about 5 minutes the system would reboot. No error message, no logs. I finally pulled out an official copy of Acronis and got my laptop to boot from CD (always finicky on this model laptop, otherwise I would have tried that first). The downside is the Acronis program is fairly high contrast, so after imaging the drive I had burn in on my LCD. I had to image it twice (my fault) and the second time I made sure to move the boxes around to cover the darker lines and just not leave the image fixed for too long. The burn in cleared up after a couple of hours, but it is a real issue when imaging a large drive on a laptop. No screen saver and it will not power down the LCD. The WD version of Acronis needs to be updated as it cannot clone a factory Dell drive image. This will be an issue as your average Joe will likely be cloning their factory drive image. I'm a techie, I just didn't feel like reinstalling Windows this time.

Excellent for the price

UbiQuiTi NanoStation LOCOM9-US N150 900 MHz Indoor/Outdoor AirMAX CPE
UbiQuiTi NanoStation LOCOM9-US N150 900 MHz Indoor/Outdoor AirMAX CPE

Pros: We run a wireless Internet service. They're not a magic bullet, but they work. 900mhz is used as our last option. Most of the issues with them aren't really related to the equipment, but rather the band. 900mhz band is horribly noisy.

Cons: 900mhz band is noisy. For short shots (under a couple of miles) they're excellent through trees, whatever. The higher you go the more likely you'll have issues. This is with essentially the same with all 900mhz equipment.

Not sure yet

Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials 64B 1-2CPU
Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials 64B 1-2CPU

Pros: The price is right. OS install was pretty quick.

Cons: What the heck is the big idea of putting a tablet GUI on a SERVER OS? Really MS? Give me a break. It isn't easy to get around in, they've changed everything just enough so that you have to relearn stuff that worked in 2003 and 2008. I will likely not be selling another server running 2012. It is a pain in the neck to work in.

Overall Review: Dear Microsoft, We don't like the tile interface as the only option. I will not sell any more MS software that doesn't have a proper desktop interface. You'll probably never notice the drop in sales, but that doesn't change the fact that even my customers that initially liked Windows 8 have sold their new PC and got me to order them refurbs with Windows 7 Pro.

Crucial, but with LEDs

Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory (with Red/Green Light) Model BLT2KIT2G3D1608DT2TXRG
Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory (with Red/Green Light) Model BLT2KIT2G3D1608DT2TXRG

Pros: Crucial RAM. I've only ever replaced one stick of Crucial RAM due to failure, DOA back in the 90s.

Cons: I didn't realize these had LEDs, my mistake. The LEDs can be controlled with software to make them not really noticeable.

Overall Review: It would be nice to turn off the LEDs entirely, but it isn't that big of a deal as long as it doesn't look like a Christmas tree under someone's desk.
