5 out of 5 eggs 05/06/2008

This review is from: PHAROS USB GPS Receiver

Pros: The device does exactly what you can expect it to do. I have it working with MS Streets and Maps 2007, And its perfect.

Cons: The cord that came with it was a little short, so you may need to buy an extension if you plan to permantly place it somewhere on your car, instead of just throwing it up on the dashboard.

Other Thoughts: This thing is litterally the size of a quarter, and can probably easily get lost if you disconnect it from the USB cable. Unlink others, i have not had any problems with the connections being loose, I just put it on my rear window dashboard area and will probably never touch the physical device again, just the end of the USB. It takes my computer about 20 seconds to locate out position. If you are standing still when you calibrate your device, it will not find you. Circle the parking lot or something.

Pioneer In-Dash 6.5

Pros: No major changes or flaws that needed to be dealt with. Notice I said "Major." The system itself works like a charm, no problems crashing or fatal system errors or anything of that nature. Its been nearly 6 months now, and unlike other models, the touch screen is very responsive, minor problems with it some times, but nothing that is repetative.

Cons: Oh boy...where to start. These problems are not with the system itself, it’s more of the extras that can be put with it. For example, the IPOD control, it shows a normal screen like an iPod does, but there is no way you can scroll artists by letter, only simply by hitting the down arrow on the list, repeatedly. A clean iTunes library with artists all neatly typed out is your friend. This problem may not be a problem to you, if you have a small iPod, but i am using every MB of my 80 GIG, totally nearly 14,000 individual tracks. But enough about the iPod.

The screen images that are displayed when it is just open and a song is playing, whether it be a IPod, a CD, sat radio, radio, whatever, is very bland and boring. Granted if you are driving you should not care what it looks like, but something interesting like EQ bars that move with music would have been an excellent choice.
Because of the max char limit, I cannot get everything in if you want more email me at Silencer1@gmail.

Other Thoughts: This model is great for a replacement for a factor installed model, but really, if you have the cash, spring for a higher end model, trust me it’s going to be worth it. But if you don’t have money coming out of your ears, and can’t find your local money tree, this thing is perfect for you. Consider it a base model, not a lot of extras, but enough to make you satisfied. For the price, which for me neared 600, it’s just what you can expect. Not the best thing you have ever laid eyes on, but they covered their bases.

Instillation: I tried and failed multiple times to install this thing myself, got it powered up and all, but then I learned I had to bypass amps to get it to work, so I just let best buy do it. Total cost for instillation was 150. With a side note, if you know anything at all about this type of thing or know somebody who can help, just get BB to install it and do the iPod dock and all that yourself, it’s very simple and straight forward, and

5 out of 5 eggs Works Great 05/05/2008

This review is from: Pioneer 5.25" 200 Watts Peak Power 3-Way Speaker

Pros: The sound is 100 times better than the blown speaker I had replaced this set with. 4 screws in the door and they were ready to go. No problems thus far, and they have been in since december of 2007. Perfect.

Cons: None that come to mind.

Other Thoughts: I blast the hell out of these things, and I barely get distortion when I get into the 2/3rds power range. They will go as loud as any person with normal ears can bare, and be just barely at the fine line of scratchy sound and excellent sound. I would have liked to have sprung for the "Premier" counterpart of these babies, but these have made me just as happy. If you do not plan on using factory grills that came with the car, it’s a very ugly reflective black, get some nice grills. The "Premier" set I got for my sister’s car are much more attractive, but that is personal preference.
