Pros: Equivalent in performance to a 4770 while being less expensive. All the typical Xeon features such as ECC support, virtualization technology. Idle temp is low compared to other processors I've owned, just 15-20 Fahrenheit above ambient room temperature. New AVX instruction set made a noticeable difference in transcoding times.
Cons: Intel's integrated HD graphics are still behind AMD's current "budget" offerings. IGPU Linux support did exist but game performance was far below win7's. This is not Intel's fault IMO and it may change in the future, just stating my experience with games and openCL benchmarks. Not the best $/performance choice for homelabs, thanks to having only 4 physical cores but I needed another Intel box.
Overall Review: The stock HS and fan combo is completely capable at cooling duties while the CPU is under a full load. However while doing so it becomes loud enough to to be a distraction in a quiet room.
Quiet for a few hours, then..
Pros: Fully modular unit and flexible cables made installation quick and tidy. Included with the unit is a bag to hold extra cables or other parts from a build; very useful. Completely silent most of the time.
Cons: At random times a coil whine will start that is easily audible from 2 meters away in a quiet room. Tried shutting down my system, and the whine persists. Then I have to use the switch on the back of the PSU to cut power completely. Put the computer on a known to clean and correctly grounded source of power, it will still happen. I've also tried using a fan to blow air directly to the PSU so it will be cooled w/ the same results.
Overall Review: I've never had a problem with seasonic units before, I've been recommending tis brand to family and friends for years, and have heard nothing bad. So these fanless PSUs must just be the exception.
Inexpensive and works
Pros: Works fine, types quietly, num/caps lock led are subdued.
Cons: No wrist support.
Overall Review: Perfect for a no frills keyboard. Very inexpensive, bought two incase another keyboard breaks or I spill some coffee, soda, nachos on this one.
A mouse pad
Pros: Slightly cushy, which is great for logitech trackball.
Cons: Smells when unpacked, but it leaves.
Overall Review: Wish I could throw it in the wash.
Decent
Pros: Filters the air quickly and cuts down on the cat hair and dust that settles on the floor and is kicked up by walking around on wood floors. I guess odors are greatly reduced by the $10 pre-filter. I wake up in the morning without a stuffy nose and sneezing.
Cons: It is very loud on the highest setting, Has to be placed in a central location to work.
Overall Review: After having this unit just over a month I can say that it should have been bought sooner. It took a couple of days on the highest setting to filter the loose dust out of the room, after that very little dust was landing on anything. Check the pre-filter after two weeks and saw lots of cat hair that would be everywhere without this thing. The pre-filter does reduce odors, that might also be the hepa as smells mean particles.
Great Budget Case
Pros: Perfect subdued compact case for a micro atx The thumb screws and HDD cage rails make it a breeze to assemble. Enough "natural" ventilation through the sides & back that extra fans are not needed for a low wattage build. Lacks bright and obnoxious lights. Two external 3.5" bays
Cons: Too small for a powerful gaming rig, long PSU cables become a problem. But that is Micro Atx.
