Bought this on sale
Pros: I ran a before and after test on my Samsung 970EVO Plus using Samsung Magician. Before I installed the heat sink, the temperature was between 50 & 55 degrees Celsius. After installation and loading some programs, the temperature was 28 degrees.
Cons: I knocked off 1 egg, since there were no instructions in English, only a QR code to get the manual in Chinese. When I sent an email to tech support, I was told to search for a video for guidance. For such a simple item, that was totally a waste of time. Even a picture diagram would have helped. I subsequently referred back to the Newegg website to review the photos provided in the description.
Overall Review: On the whole, this passive heat sink did reduce the operating temperature. The only real issue was getting the tiny screw installed to hold the NVME stick, since the heat sink added some height. Thankfully I have a small tweezers which gripped the edge of the head of the screw horizontally and was able to install it.
It just died
Pros: Nice and fast while it lasted, as I purchase this in April of 2015. I used it to copy files from my home machine to other computers, as I am the tech volunteer at our local public library.
Cons: I plugged it into my USB 3 hub yesterday and nothing happened. Windows shows a USB drive F:, but there's nothing I can do with it. I also plugged it into my laptop with no results. The sad part is that there was no warning that it was about to fail.
Overall Review: Maybe 4 years is all that can be expected.
Decent cooling
Pros: It did cool down my BarraCuda-510.
Cons: The cable has an odd pin setup, which should have allowed me to use the one power header and pass through to the fan. The pins are not the proper size and would not fit the fan connector at all, as it was way too loose. I have never seen such tiny pins on anything, and I have been building computers for 25+ years.
Overall Review: It's OK if you don't care about the RGB plug. I just used the enclosed twist tie and put it out of the way. FYI, on my ASRock Z390, I put the M.2 2280 SSD in the 2nd position and was not able to attach the screws, as the chipset heatsink was very close.
Lots of airflow
Pros: I bought the S600 about 8 months ago and have been tinkering with the layout and the fans. I just added 2 more, having moved the original fans to the top. I did find that it was necessary to purchase 4-pin extensions for the top fans, as the cables wouldn't reach to the fan headers on the ASRock mobo - they are on the bottom. Initially I was having temperature issues with the Samsung 970EVO Plus, as it sits above my RX-590 graphics card, so I bought a static cooler for that.
Cons: The one issue is the mesh filter on the bottom, under the power supply. If you pick up the case with your hand under that spot, it tends to pop off rather easily. I have to wonder why they couldn't have designed the filter to be like the one on the top, which is magnetic.
Overall Review: Cable management is fine, once you work with how you want things laid out. Cable ties or Velco straps are a must to tame the wires inside the case. My build: Core i7-8700 with an H60 water cooler venting out the back 2 120mm fans on the top & 2 120mm fans in the front RX-590 with 8GB of VRAM 16GB RAM 1 1TB hard drive 1 2TB hard drive 500GB 970EVO
Worked fine for 2 years
Pros: I found this on a sale day in April of 2016, so I bought it and also used the gift card from my son. At the time, there was a rebate, so it made it even better. It has worked fine up until November of 2018.
Cons: I submitted a warranty RMA and paid for the shipping. What I received back from MSI was the RX 460 4G, which is not comparable at all. The memory bandwidth on the R7 was calculated at around 180 GB/s, whereas the RX460 (having 128-bit GDDR5) only comes in at 112 GB/s. Also, the R7 has dual DVI connectors, where this one only has one, along with a DP and HDMI connector.
Overall Review: I printed a Word document detailing the specs between the 2 and faxed it to the MSI RMA/Warranty department, so we'll see what happens.
Three LAN ports died after 2 years
Pros: While it worked, everything was fine. There was an issue with a buggy firmware update back in February of this year, and that seems to have been resolved.
Cons: Suddenly today I couldn't connect to my NAS. I checked the router and discovered that the port light wasn't lit, nor was the one for the switch in another room. After moving patch cords around, I discovered that 3 LAN ports were out, and my tower computer was the only one working, and that's connected to port #1; the other 3 have no response at all. Having spent a chuck of change on this in July of 2014, I'm disappointed in this.
Overall Review: Thankfully I was able to move the small Gigabit 5 port switch and connect my computer and NAS, although this leaves the other room with no wired connection for my Linux box. The sad part is that I have an old WNR running dd-wrt, and that's still chugging along. I may have to put that into full service in the spare room to give me connections for the Linux box and other devices. I'll have to try the dreaded reset, although from what I've read, this hasn't helped other customers.
Item received in a timely fashion
There were no issues with either the shipping or the item.
Missing order
Newegg was processing the missing shipment, as they were listed as the shipper, so I never contacted Noctua. I don't know whether the shipping problem lies with Noctua, Newegg, or the carrier. The last indication, according to the tracking, showed the item sitting in Rochester, NY on the 8th of January, and it's now the 19th. I could have made that 3 hour round trip multiple times, if that is truly where it was. NOTE: I had to choose the item description as "No", since there's not an option for "No comment" or "Not applicable".
