Works well

SilverStone SD01B Aluminum / Plastic 2.5" & 3.5" Black SAS / SATA eSATA, SAS dual-lane External Hard Drive Pad / Docking Station
SilverStone SD01B Aluminum / Plastic 2.5" & 3.5" Black SAS / SATA eSATA, SAS dual-lane External Hard Drive Pad / Docking Station

Pros: Works as advertised and much cheaper than other towers or external enclosures. Very simple design. Basically it is just a port extender to the outside of the computer. I've only used it with SAS drives so far.

Cons: The clip on the end of the tray to hold the drive in place is difficult to put on and take off. Since it is just plastic and you have to fight with it I am sure it will eventually break but it is not critical for it to work. A simple rework of this clip would get 5 eggs.

Overall Review: You need to connect it to the computers power supply (molex connector provided) so this is not suitable for use with laptops unless you provide another power source.

Great until it died

Crucial M4 CT064M4SSD2CCA 2.5" 64GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) with Transfer Kit
Crucial M4 CT064M4SSD2CCA 2.5" 64GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) with Transfer Kit

Pros: Very fast and worked great as a dedicated cache drive with Intel's Rapid Storage Technology chip set (z68)

Cons: It died after 1 year and 2 weeks of use in a home system that is powered on roughly 5 out of 7 days a week

Overall Review: Similar to another review, removing the drive to another system and reformatting it 'revives' the drive for a few hours and then it dies again. If it had been my primary boot drive I would have been sunk but as a dedicated cache drive the system continued to work fine, just without the SSD acceleration. I would not recommend an SSD (especially this one) as a primary OS drive unless you plan on replacing it every 9 months.
