Slick

Zmodo KHI8-YARUZ8ZN 8 Channel H.264, 960H DVR Security System with 8 x 700TVL Night Vision w/IR Cut Outdoor Cameras (No HDD)
Zmodo KHI8-YARUZ8ZN 8 Channel H.264, 960H DVR Security System with 8 x 700TVL Night Vision w/IR Cut Outdoor Cameras (No HDD)

Pros: This is my third ZMODO buy, starting before motion detection. This by far has the slickest interface. My customer this time didn't need networking, so I can't speak to any functionality on that side, but the resolution is very good, and I can make out faces from 10-foot high mounts on the walls. Recording takes up less space than I had anticipated. I put a 2 TB drive in to accommodate all 8 cameras running during business hours, but after a week, not quite 200GB was even used. (used stock record quality settings) Had no missing equipment or mounting accessories. I recommend pairing this with an IOGear KVM switch.. i've used them on all my installs so we can put it right with the user's PC's with barely any additional footprint added to installation locations. Also, get the highest resolution monitor you can afford. It's nice to get full benefit of quality without having to just show one camera full-screen.

Cons: None -- got it for 181 w/tax. Fantastic deal

Most Critical Review

Vista?

Microsoft Windows Vista 32-Bit Home Premium for System Builders Single Pack DVD
Microsoft Windows Vista 32-Bit Home Premium for System Builders Single Pack DVD

Pros: DX10 support, but the user interface is too resource intensive, but I was planning on building a new PC anyway.

Cons: DX10 support. Microsoft has created an artificial for Vista by limiting DX10 to Vista only.

Overall Review: Not a bad OS, but certainly not surpassing XP the way that XP did for 98 and 2000

inexpensive entry-level gaming keyboard.

ROCCAT ISKU Illuminated Gaming Keyboard, Black
ROCCAT ISKU Illuminated Gaming Keyboard, Black

Pros: Full-size with no tiny half-keys some others have tiny enter or backspace keys. Additional Macro profiles, so I can set up combos for different games. (going to use my macro keys in PUBG to switch to different vehicle seats). Lots of configuration options provided you downloaded the software that runs in the system tray. (like disabling one or the other Windows keys to prevent inadvertent Desktop visits :). I've been known to pop the left one off to prevent a Rage-quit or two.

Cons: Lack of CAPS lock in favor of the Shift+. I understand why they did it, but to omit CAPS lock completely was a mistake, IMO. At its brightest, the backlight not as bright as my previous two Saitek models (note: not mechanical, and both lasted for about 8 years each. The only reason I ditched them is because I wore the etching off in the lettering, rendering them unreadable, and letting too much light through) Very annoying audio heard when recording Macros that is reminiscent of "M--m-m-monster Kill!" (can be disabled) Getting better, and I like that I have extra Macro keys i can press left of the standard keys, however...I wish they had some kind of different feeling to them so I could know where I am. Kept pressing the M1 key looking for ESC.

Overall Review: Got it for 20 bucks. good deal for that price. Make sure to download the software from Roccat -- not included. https://www.roccat.org/en-US/Support/Downloads/ Again, lots of configuration options that will be useful, I'm sure.

Great drives

Cons: No cables included, just bare drives

Excellent Deal

Mediasonic USB3.0 UASP HUR1-SU3-WT 2.5" / 3.5" SATA HDD Station
Mediasonic USB3.0 UASP HUR1-SU3-WT 2.5" / 3.5" SATA HDD Station

Pros: After rebate, 4 bucks. nothing outside features listed v. price paid

Cons: 1. Device is decidely light-weight, and could be prone to tipping if not careful. I have another one that is weighted on the bottom. Maybe I could glue it to something small and heavy to give it better balance? 2. Had a good amount of trouble setting it up. This is the first device in a long time that I've had that cared which way I plugged it into the outlet. If it matters, one of the prongs needs to be bigger to force correct orientation. I spent ten minutes trying to get it to turn on, until FINALLY turning the AC adapter over to plug in the other way. Voila! 3. No eject button. Which means that I have to man-handle the base to carefully and straightly pull the drives out ever so carefully. It only really matters for the 2.5" drives, since they have much more room to lean. 4. I am running 64 bit windows 7 on the machine to which it's connected. It took a long time to get it drivers to work. I finally had to give up on one usb 3 controller on my tower and use another. Still took 15 minutes for it to "find" drivers for it and set it up.

Overall Review: I bought this as a spare, so we'll see if it holds up, but so far it does what it advertised.... once I got it all set up. Speed is as advertised, so once functional, I'm satisfied.

Pros: Took PC gamer's advice for their Holiday issue. Got his over the best i7. No problems at all with stock cooler, no OC'ing, and Shadow of Mordor with Max settings is beautiful.

Cons: none
