Impressive for a small laptop

HP Laptop Stream Intel Celeron N2840 2GB Memory 32 GB eMMC SSD Intel HD Graphics 11.6" Windows 8.1 with Bing 11-d010nr

Pros: The price is right on this little laptop. It's very quiet--which is funny to say, because I never thought of a laptop as loud before, but all the same--and the way the color fades on the case gives it a touch of fun instead of just being plain white or black. The keyboard is great. I needed a machine the price of a netbook but with a keyboard that didn't make my wrists ache to use, because I'm a full time freelance writer. This looks like it will fit the bill perfectly. Although I've had the laptop for about two hours, I've typed about 2000 words on it, and my fingers aren't annoyed at all. The keys are just a little bit roughened, which makes it easier somehow to keep your fingers where they need to be. Unlike a lot of inexpensive chromebooks and such that I've looked at, this laptop doesn't feel like it was cheaply made. It's lightweight, wakes up very quickly from sleeping, and generally is behaving quite well for a little bug of a laptop.

Cons: All the cons are expected based on the price. With only 2gigs of RAM, this is far from the fastest laptop I've ever used, though the rapid speeds of the SSD seems to be making up much more than I expected. I can stream video or music on this, but if I was trying to do much more than listen to music and type, I think I might give the laptop a coronary. Don't purchase this laptop if you want it to be a desktop replacement, or even a gaming machine. If you want a mobile typewriter that lets you check your email, you're golden.

Overall Review: I had been eyeing a Chromebook for about two years now, but in the end, I don't want to commit myself to the Google ecosystem quite yet. While lots of things can be satisfactorily done in the cloud, for a writer, there are still some features that are only accessible in desktop functions. This laptop is the perfect combination for me between lightweight portability and a solid OS that I can actually install a couple of programs on.
