A great upgrade for gamers
Pros: This mouse has some incredible tracking. I read it had the same mold as the g5 (2000 dpi laser mouse), and that scared me away from buying one for a wall because for some reason I simply hated the g5. Anyway, don't believe the computer noobs in regards to issues with the included software. I have windows 7 and had zero problems. Pop the disc in and follow the screen; although unless you really want a few hot keys at the palm of your hand when under fire it's not really necessary (I use 2 of the side keys for healing and reloading in Urban Terror). The alt+tab function button in the middle of the mouse is a pleasant surprise, didn't think I'd really like it but I use and abuse it lol. In the end, great mouse. I am coming from having multiple mx310 mice over the past 6 years and this was the perfect "step up" for me. The price is also the best you will find. Ordered It on Thursday morning, I had it Friday evening - simply cannot beat that!
Cons: This is more a personal con than something I'd assume will be a problem for everyone. My hand tends to sweat quite a bit when I'm gaming for extensive amounts of time, and the mouse has a smooth feel to it so it's not necessarily a good combination at times but what can ya do right? I'd still buy the mouse all over again without a second thought. No complaints, it's exactly what I expected it to be.
Overall Review: Between reviews @ newegg and some opinions of friends I game with I went ahead and bought an X TRAC RIPPER mousepad along with this, I'd suggest you do so as well if you want to get the most out of your puchase. It glides sickeningly smooth over this pad and not a single tracking error or misread. Definately something to consider if your mousepad isn't designed for gaming, or the current one you have is just getting a bit wore out.
Maybe a good budget headset but..
Pros: The package arrived in good condition. Things went downhill almost immediately after opening it though. See "Cons" for more.
Cons: The headset itself feels flimsy and cheap. I've bought headsets in a similar price range and have found them to be much sturdier. Both the microphone/sound wires are intermingled into one very thin and flimsy cord. The microphone was DOA so I cannot comment on how good or bad that is. Upon plugging it in I could immediately detect a drop in sound quality from my 4 year old Steelseries Siberias that only cost me a fraction more at the time (another sale). To put things in perspective I typically leave my windows volume and gaming volume around mid-level but even after turning them both to max I still heard less with this Fatality headset than I did with that particular set. I'd even place this below my even older set of Everglides that have begun to dry rot due to nearly being a decade old. Overall I'm very dissatisfied and have opened an RMA to return them.
Overall Review: I would guess for the price a gamer who has never owned a mid or high level headset would probably not have issues with these but honestly.. I would suggest spending an extra 15 or 20 dollars on a better performing set. This was my first and most likely last Creative product.
First Mech Gaming KB I ever had..
Pros: Price. Price. Price! I was torn between buying this at the refurbished cost or buying a lower end model such as a steel series 6Gv2 brand new. Once I got myself past the "refurbished" tag the decision was easy to make. The KB arrived as if it were brand new. No marks or scratches to speak of on the board. Plug n Play and man.. it's something else when it's all lit up with that sick red back-lighting. Honestly, at this point my only concern is how long it will be till the lights start to burn out, but even this isn't a huge issue as I do not game in the dark (at least not often). The keys are nicer than I ever could have imagined. Although going from a 10 yr old Microsoft Multimedia board that's not surprising. Basically any mech would have probably gotten similar praise from me. Not a single issue with a key to report, although, yes I've only had this for a few days now. Based on the general praise the K70 receives I figure if it arrived to me in great working shape out of the box it will likely remain in such a state as it's been rated amongst the top options no the market for a few years now and I can see why. I will say I was surprised by the weight of the board. It's got some weight to it but it's not obnoxious. Enough to keep it from moving in the heat of a battle, at the very least. The grips underneath seem to do a good job at supporting this effort. The wrist rest I was a bit unsure about as I pulled it out of the box - I originally thought I'd skip it and just play w/o it. To my surprise it is very comfortable and a welcomed addition for long gaming sessions. It also could not be any easier to attach - just snap on the 2 clips and you're ready to go to battle. I cannot emphasize enough though, that the #1 pro is price. I'm still finding it hard to believe this has be going as a refurb in the 70-80 USD range for over year. I don't know how they continue to have inventory unless the boards are constantly breaking down and being shipped back (I hope this isn't the case - couldn't find any documentation on google..). Other than that slight concern -> 100% praise from me. I couldn't be happier with the purchase I made. On a praise-related note not directly linked to the board.. I had chosen 5-7 day shipping, placed my order on a Thursday around noon and the board was at my doorstep Friday @ 5pm. You simply cannot beat this level of service. I'd give newegg 6/5 eggs if I could.
Cons: I don't want to jinx myself, as this is a refurb, but I have absolutely nothing bad to say at this time. If a few of the led's start to burn out in upcoming months I honestly wouldn't even care - as long as the keys themselves continue to operate and feel as they do now I couldn't be happier. A++ board
Overall Review: The only possible suggestion I can think of is that I was a bit surprised in the packaging. I really don't know how the item doesn't get damaged in transit (but it didn't). It's just light cardboard with the board inside wrapped up in a plastic bag (not bubble wrap or air inflated bags to secure it). Nothing I'm griping about but maybe a potential room for improvement. But at 50% off I am certainly not going to ding the rating I'm leaving for such a thing. :~)
Nice Little Reader
Pros: Free shipping and yet it arrives the very next day? Sign me up! Plugged into my wife's new laptop and was immediately recognized w/o the software that accompanied it (laptop is running windows 8). The price was a bit more than some cheaper options but there's a reason this model is getting the reviews it is.. you wont go wrong picking it up if you find yourself in need of a CD-ROM. I'm not even sure we will ever utilize the DVD writing capabilities but regardless, I'm very happy with the purchase.
Cons: None yet - but it has only been a week. So far no complaints.
Heavenly with an MX518!
Pros: The following is based on experiences while using a Logitech MX518 (1800 dpi) Very, very smooth and accurate tracking. Plenty of space but not to the point it's obnoxious.
Cons: I wish they were more durable; they insist washing them extends their lives but once the pad wears down and I attempt to restore a bit of life into it by washing it I found its performance to be the same. I play A LOT of qlive and urban terror so I abuse my mice/mousepads a bit more than average users (my opinion). If I'm lucky I can get a good 4 months out of it, and that's only by rotating the pad so I make use of as much of it as I can. My only real issue outside the durability, which really isn't a huge issue since it's only $15 most of the time, is the fact you cannot really utilize the corner where the logo is on the pad. The mouse doesn't like tracking over that part and it's not nearly as smooth as the rest of the pad (this is normal for most pads but I still don't like it :p).
Overall Review: Nice pad, I strongly suggest this for gamers - especially if you are using an optical mouse of any brand.
Undecided On This..
Pros: *Fit in my case perfectly *Seems to be better than my stock cooler but not sure (see cons)
Cons: I have 2 issues as of now with this cooler: *My motherboard does not recognize it as a cooling fan and prompts me to hit F2 upon booting up or it shuts me down automatically within 10 seconds *One of the 4 screws used to mount the cooler to the MB was STRIPPED on arrival, not a single groove on the inside to screw it on properly with and my stock screws wouldn't do the job - as of now I have on via being clamped down with an adjustable wrench but seriously, a stripped screw? A part that costs probably less than a cent *sigh* I was pretty surprised with both these issues especially since I expected it to take me less than 10 minutes and have everything closed up and running smooth.
Overall Review: I'm just stunned I encounted the issues I did considering how well it had been reviewed - must just be unlucky I suppose. I felt really bad due to the fact my girlfriend had purchased it for me as a x-mas gift and she got to watch it unravel a bit while doing the install. I would like a replacement screw at the very least for the one that was pretty much a gag gift in the first place; the motherboard issue I'm still searching around google trying to troubleshoot.
