Blu Ray Reader/DVD Burner With Lightscribe
Pros: A great 8X Blu-Ray reader for the price which also happens to be a darn good DVD burner with LightScribe ability as well. Is a SATA drive and it replaced and old IDE DVD Rom in my Dell XPS400. A SATA power adapter was included in the retail edition of the drive which converts the 4 pin Molex connector to SATA power. That was a nice inclusion for the last DVD burner I bought a few weeks ago did not include one and cost me a few extra dollars. Load times are quite fast and the drive runs quietly and efficiently. The included Power DVD software works just fine for playback and I was glad that they included it.
Cons: Very minor quibble with the blue LED light on the front it is quite bright and if it's in your line of sight it could be bothersome. That's easy enough to fix and there are countless ways to block the light if necessary.
Overall Review: If you are adding this to your computer make sure you have the following. A video card that can has the power to handle this drive, I went with the ATI Radeon HD4350 from Newegg, it's about $40.00 dollars and is also HDCP compliant. My monitor is not HDCP compliant I have a Dell 2405FPW, so I am running Anydvd HD it's free for a 21 day trial and removes the HDCP signal so that the drive and monitor can play nicely.
Nice Video Card
Pros: Easy install with my OS Microsoft XP. HDMI out is nice although I am using the DVI Cable and the sound is being processed through my sound card to external speakers. Low profile no problem fitting in my Dell case.
Cons: Runs a bit warm as attested to by others, normal temps run at about 60C and 80c are not uncommon when playing games or running Blu Ray movies.
Overall Review: If I was a gamer I would probably look for a card with a built in fan but for my applications it's a great card at this price point.
Exactly as promised
Pros: Plugs in and allowed me to hook up my SATA DVD Burner to a 4 pin Molex connection that had been powering an IDE device. Great stuff literally a 2 second install job.
Cons: None at all.
Does Egg-Zactly What it's supposed to
Pros: Inexpensive and does exactly what it was designed to do.
Cons: No cons..although it's painful to pay 3x the cost for the item for shipping..that was my fault for not realizing I needed it when I ordered my DVD burner.
Great Burner!!
Pros: Burns quickly and much quieter than my 3 year old Liteon burner it has replaced. 24X capability although media is a bit tougher to find and honestly compared to 16X the difference in burn times is not that significant in my opinion.
Cons: None so far
Overall Review: Installs easily just make sure you have a SATA port on your motherboard available and if you don't have a SATA power connection available buy an adapter. I have a Dell XPS 400 and I needed a SATA to Molex 4 pin adapter, Newegg has them for about 6 bucks.
