OCZ Apex Series 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) OCZSSD2-1APX120G

Pros: No moving parts Quiet Benchmarks well Applications launch instantly, as long as there are no writes happening

Cons: Stutter Stutter Stutter Runs no cooler than my previous HDD

Overall Review: Unfortunately this drive isn't all the reviews here make it out to be. Imaging your existing XP install won't work at all - the partition alignment is off, and it's near impossible to correct it without creating your aligned partitions first, then doing a clean install. Even so, and even after methodically testing all suggested tweaks from the OCZ forum (which is surprisingly active), the drive was not usable with XP. The drive stuttered (hung for 1-8 seconds) any time the drive writes. You can't do anything while installing a program, copying large files to the drive, etc. It seems to handle Outlook/Exchange particularly poorly, and it hangs at almost every action. From the forums I was made to believe that Vista would handle this better, so I took the plunge and re-installed my spare Vista license. Yes, it's better, but I don't think it's livable. The pauses still happen all the time. Look for the recent Anandtech article to understand why, then wait for something better.
