ASUS Eee PC 1201T-MU10-BK Black AMD Athlon Neo MV-40(1.60 GHz) 12.1" WXGA 2GB Memory 250GB HDD NetBook
ASUS Eee PC 1201T-MU10-BK Black AMD Athlon Neo MV-40(1.60 GHz) 12.1" WXGA 2GB Memory 250GB HDD NetBook

Pros: Good performance for some tasks. Plays Half Life 2 on lowered settings. Great keyboard. Great mouse. Very bright and clear display. Runs very cool, only gets warm when you really push it.

Cons: - Glossy everything.. Why for Pete sake do the manufacturers think we like it glossy! Its a finger print magnet and looks gross pretty quickly. - In WinXP, whenever the screen timesout/turns off and when you move the mouse, the screen will comeback on full brightness (wont save where you set it) - Battery life is only so-so. I used a tool to undervolt the processor and I get at most 4.5 hours on light use. - Will not play Hulu video or anything flash HD. It won't play even the lowest setting hulu video, flash 10.0 or 10.1. It stutters pretty badly, which is odd because my celeron based eeepc 701 plays hulu much better.

Overall Review: -If you look around they sell a battery for this notebook and the 1201n that has (I think) around 1000 more mAH. That would probably get you into the fives. I have a hard time imagining people get 6 out of these, I measured the watts, it just doesn't add up. -I think this netbook will play flash better when Asus releases a radeon driver based on 9.12 and above. That is the version that is supposed to work with flash 10.1. AMDs drivers won't install on this from their site (even though that was supposed to start working for some models) I was very tempted to knock it down an egg just because it handles flash so roughly, but if you factor in the price and that you can play some older games, this is a great value.

3D problems

Asus VG236H 23" 1920 x 1080 Full HD HDMI Multimedia Height & Swivel Adjustable WideScreen LCD 120Hz 3D Monitor 400 cd/m2 100,000:1 (ASCR)
Asus VG236H 23" 1920 x 1080 Full HD HDMI Multimedia Height & Swivel Adjustable WideScreen LCD 120Hz 3D Monitor 400 cd/m2 100,000:1 (ASCR)

Pros: Nice 120Hz performance for high frame rates in normal viewing mode.

Cons: Same 3d Video distortions as reported in the Nvidia forum. See thread title: Vision 3D top of screen severe ghosting (READ BEFORE PURCHASING). From reading the 16 pages of complaints, the problem seems to be caused by the monitor and not the Nvidia hardware. I will attempt to reach Asus/Nvidia next week and get there input on the issue but I think there is a basic design flaw or limitation in the technology. If things cant get better than this, 3D on a computer may be left in the dust after quality 3D TVs become available.

Overall Review: I will be happy to update this review if I get positive news from the manufactures that a fix is under way.

Crucial 1GB ECC Unbuffered DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Server Memory Model CT12872AA667

Pros: Crucial name and value

Cons: In error I ordered only one stick. Ordered a second days later and there were small physical differences and a very similar difference in part numbers but not in the core number. After installing the two sticks, my total memory increased by only 1.5g??

Overall Review: I am now thinking of ordering a third stick hoping it will match one of the others I recently purchased and I may get full use of 2gs.
