Nifty hub, works perfectly
Pros: My Gigabyte MB supports USB 3.0, but has no internal USB 3.0 headers, only rear USB 3.0 ports. The 4-port front hub would be nice for USB 3.0 devices such as external hard drives. The included USB 3.0 cable is sufficiently long to reach the rear USB I/O ports (through a slotted rear I/O bracket). Connected this way, it works just fine.
Cons: None really. Initially it didn't work when connected to a PCIe 2.0 x1 USB 3.0 add-on card, but clearly that was the fault of the PCIe card, not the hub device.
Overall Review: Looks classy, fits perfectly into the 3.5" bay of my Lian -Li mid tower case. I appreciate the extra long Molex power cable, and the USB 3.0 cable will even reach the rear of a full tower case. A nice addition to my computer.
Nice features, poor illumination
Pros: Attractive controller panel, settings easily modified, sufficiently bright out of the box, does what its supposed to do.
Cons: The LED brightness cannot be adjusted, and the control panel becomes unreadable within a few months as the LED backlight progressively dims. Even if you don't intend to use the device for temperature monitoring, you must attach the 4 temp leads or the alarms never cease.
Overall Review: This would be an ideal fan controller but for the LED backlight issue and the compulsory temp sensor connections. After 6 months of use, one cannot read the panel by ambient light because the backlight illumination is too dim.
Works slick
Pros: It was free (included with 120GB Samsung SSD), and free stuff that works perfectly is always delightful. The adapter clicks into any PCIe-2 slot. A USB cloning adapter ships with the Samsung SSD, so once the cloning is completed, you simply attach it to the Velocity Solo adapter, and boot the computer.
Cons: None whatsoever.
Overall Review: There is a potential glitch which the adapter instructions doesn't address: BIOS modification. You must enable booting from LAN ROM or the BIOS won't load the operating system. So open the BIOS first thing and make any necessary changes. The boot order must include LAN, or it's a 'no go'. I was so pleased, I removed the HDD cage from my Lian Li case, which alleviates crowding and improves airflow. Enjoy!
Fast, simple to install
Pros: 120GB entirely adequate for my needs, drive ships with USB adapter for data transfer (cloning), kit also includes spacer for those laptops/netbooks originally equipped with thicker HDD, cloning via USB adapter quite fast at ~1.5GB/min. No BIOS modification required. Boots in 10-15 seconds. Good price at <$1/GB. 'Data migration' software includes firmware update that runs in the Windows environment.
Cons: Absolutely none.
Overall Review: Now that ultra reliable (1.5 million MTBF) SSDs are available at <$1/GB, there's no reason to procrastinate. I'll never need 'sleep' mode again - the netbook boots in <15 seconds, fully functional. Awesome. This is a terrific kit, everything you need to replace your laptop/netbook/desktop HDD with a superb SSD.
Absolutely gorgeous display
Pros: Gorgeous display, sleek clean design, built in IR emitter for nVIDIA 3-D glasses, normally invisible monitor adjustment controls activated by fingertip touch, easy to connect USB ports on left side of monitor, excellent color adjustment wizard. 3-D is now bright and depth of field easily adjusted (ctrl F3,F4). The monitor will store 3 preprogrammed display modes, and the touch of a button instantly calls up the selected mode. There are so many nifty features that I cannot begin to list them all in this review.
Cons: A bit expensive, but that's what you expect for such elegant technology.
Overall Review: Other reviewers have commented negatively about colors appearing 'washed out'. Indeed, this is one's first impression right out of the box. But this BenQ monitor has a rather narrow optimal viewing angle. When viewed nearly perpendicular to the screen, the colors are dazzling and compare favorably to 60Hz monitors. The software that comes with the monitor includes a nifty color adjustment wizard. Once the viewing angle is properly set and the wizard has done its thing, the display is absolutely gorgeous.
Charming and delightful
Pros: The principal character (Sylvie) is pretty, clever, and unpretentiously alluring. Her English voice is exquisitely performed. Sylvie's walking and running are nicely rendered, with perfect shadowing and smooth changes in persepctive. From the credits, I assume this game was produced in Poland. The scenes look authentic. The puzzles are sufficiently challenging to prompt an occasional glance at walkthrough notes. Manual 'saves' are easily done, and the game loads very quickly. There is a delightful interview with a parrot ("Come sink with us for 5 Euros") at the boat dock. The question mark symbol helps one locate essential items for Sylvie's backpack, but doesn't spoil the challenge of the puzzles.
Cons: One of the puzzles is almost impossible to solve without the walkthrough notes (the Archway room fireplace) because the scene is too dark. There are no graphics options, so one cannot adjust the 'gamma' or other parameters. The male protagonists appear rather stiff and unnatural compared to Sylvie, nor do their actions always suit the dialogue. Some of the dialogues become tedious (Sylvie and the Cardinal) and seem implausible. The ending is too abrupt and incomplete, nor does this 'finale' fully explain the intrigue. Sylvie wears the same outfit for 5 consecutive days, so I'm not sure I would invite her to share a glass of wine without some air freshener.
Overall Review: This is my first City Interactive game. I found it delightful and charming, so much so that I have ordered another of this series from Newegg. The graphics aren't particularly sophisticated, but it's a pleasure to play from start to finish. Sylvie may be modestly attired, but her tight lowcut jeans, tilting hips and cute figure are riveting for the male player. Doubtless this was intentional, and very effectively rendered. She is so captivating that a replay is just as charming as the original.
