My Personal Behemoth

NORCO RPC-470 Black 4U Rackmount Server Case 3 External 5.25" Drive Bays
NORCO RPC-470 Black 4U Rackmount Server Case 3 External 5.25" Drive Bays

Pros: Love the construction, seems well engineered. Very straight-forward. At first site I was surprised by the size. It doesn't come across from the pictures. It was double-boxed. My ATX board fit perfect. Who complains about mounting studs in the wrong place? Just move em!

Cons: The front paint had peeled a bit. No instructions, but then it was fun deciphering how to open the lid and install the drives. I saw 2 other reviewers who were removing the middle fan bulkhead, I almost did. A bit of instructions would help. The brackets that hold the drive cages in don't stick, keep falling off. The 4 recessed screws to hold the front screens are difficult to get to.

Overall Review: Description says 4 fans, but actually 5, fine, but I had only ordered 6 high-quality drives and now need another. My Tower 120 Extreme CPU Cooler with a stated height of 155+/-2.0mm stands 158.5mm off the surface of the motherboard installed. Being the dolt I am, I tried to force the cover on. Too tight, not good, but no harm done. I removed 4mm plastic washers, and probably ruined the heat sink, but got 2 mm clearance and enough to fit the lid. Just FYI - 155mm heat sink won't fit in this case too well. My beef: Why do people gripe about missing things like hot-swap drive bays when it was never offered in the product?

Mushkin Enhanced Redline 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model 997104
Mushkin Enhanced Redline 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model 997104

Pros: Attractive color.

Cons: Had some problems with my OS with these, and so finally did a memtest+ run (always a last resort), and found some errors consistently in one of two chips. Tossed out.

Overall Review: All memory has a bad batch, but I'm no good at returns, so I just buy something else.

Works, no noise, lightweight

AXM 3018 30" WQHD Monitor, 2K 2560x1600, IPS panel 6ms, 330 cd/m2 60 Hz
AXM 3018 30" WQHD Monitor, 2K 2560x1600, IPS panel 6ms, 330 cd/m2 60 Hz

Pros: Just works! It's light compared to my old [not mentioned competitor] and crossover IPS panels. The color is better than my [not mentioned competitor] is. Just seems brighter. Of course it is new. But the other monitors sometimes one sometimes the other, flicker or even go complete noise if I open for example Spotify web player, possibly the installed app, too. I believe (but have no way of knowing) it to be due to new HTML5 APIs, since it is playing music and animations, and that's when the noise is the worst. The cabling is Mini-DM from my Precision to DVI adaptors.for my two old monitors; maybe that's the cause. This is Mini-DM straight to DM, and looks beautiful. I'm only a business user, though.

Overall Review: For the price, I'll probably replace the other two, though I am lusting after 43" 4Gs. Monitor lust is only curable by bigger monitors.

Works fine, wonder if all are slow?

SanDisk 32GB Cruzer CZ36 USB 2.0 Flash Drive (SDCZ36-032G-B35)
SanDisk 32GB Cruzer CZ36 USB 2.0 Flash Drive (SDCZ36-032G-B35)

Pros: Fits lots of files. I can't fill it up as much as I thought I would. I used to haul videos from my computer to the blu-ray in the living room, but now we're all too busy to watch movies. Works in my car stereo.

Cons: Takes a long time to copy stuff down. The larger the batch, the more noticeable the delay is.

Overall Review: Are all thumb drives slow? These larger drives start to be more visibly slow.

Boot drive, works fine

OCZ Vertex 4 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) VTX4-25SAT3-256G

Pros: Zippy windows 7 64 boot up. Works with my Sabertooth 990FX R2.0.

Cons: None.

No problems, works great

ASUS TUF SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
ASUS TUF SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

Pros: The various clocking easy setups worked fine. There's a lot of comments for overclockers in the UEFI BIOS, which is very helpful with experimenting.

Cons: The ps/2 split between mouse/keyboard bugged me a little. Linux kernels past 3.2 or something were failing to detect the USBs properly. I bumped through several versions of slackware, trying to find where it broke, but ran out of patience. So, I needed to have PS/2 devices just to boot and run. Is there a splitter cable to run mouse and keyboard into one physical port? I didn't care. I just installed Windows 7 x64 and everything worked fine. Linux fail again.

Overall Review: The UEFI BIOS is fine. Always detected the mouse and keyboard regardless of wireless or wired, USB or PS/2. I went through many combinations. The Logitech Unifying receiver worked, too. Surprised. I'm a little concerned about the temperature monitoring. I've gotten so many different temps from tools and from the BIOS that I really have no idea what temperature the CPU or MB is running at. This makes overclocking impossible to be comfortable about.
