OCZ Vertex Series 2.5
  • neweggOwned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: Fast speeds. not much else.

Cons: Reliability. Just a month after buying my 250 GB Vertex it failed. I figured okay it might just have been on the stores self for a long time and may have been a early production model. OCZ sent me a new drive and they said it was fresh off the production line and it shipped directly from Taiwan.

This new drive failed just 3 weeks later. OCZ said they started making drives with the new 1.4 firmware and that they'd send me a new one.

I installed this drive and it was working fine from about late October to the end of April 2010. The drive failed just a couple days right during finals and no matter how much you back things up you still lose data.

OCZ also makes their customers pay to ship the drive back to them. Honestly after paying over $700 for their product I'd expect them to pick up the tab on their failing product

Other Thoughts: I'm done with OCZ. I'm never buying another one of their SSD's, power supplies or anything. I'm going to call up customer support and demand my $700 back for them selling a faulty product. Trying to get my files and college project back to the point they were at before the drive failed has been a nightmare but I'm willing to bet I won't even receive an apology from OCZ.
