4 out of 5 eggs Quality Hardware; Bad software 10/10/2013

This review is from: Corsair Vengeance 1500 USB Connector Circumaural Dolby 7.1 Gaming Headset

Pros: I got these on sale awhile back, the sound is fantastic and I find the 7.1 emulation, comfort, and build quality to be quite high. For the price I paid, I simply couldn't imagine a better headphone. The mic works very well too.

Cons: Driver support for w7 is trash. Let that sync in. It's terrible. They have yet to release an updated version that actually works with my system. They released their current version, pulled it and advised customers to use an older version, then released it without fixing the conflict. Older driver version, as mentioned periodically by others, will completely drop sound and the mode in which your headphones are operating in must be changed for sound to restart production. Still a four star device, easily a five if not for driver support

Other Thoughts: I was told I'd be contacted once the drivers where up to par....that didn't happen, I guess because six months isn't long enough to fix a discontinued product driver. Wonder if v2's drivers would fix the issue.

5 out of 5 eggs Can't give it a four 02/15/2013

This review is from: Corsair Vengeance 1500 USB Connector Circumaural Dolby 7.1 Gaming Headset

Pros: Overall build quality is high. Attention to detail is present. The headband seems quite sturdy. The foam cups are stiched in such a way as to seal around the ear. The cable is braided and comes with a catch for excess.

Sound-wise I was very impressed. Using the Corsair GUI I was able to access the equalizer as well as play with the different setting and engage the virtual 7.1 sound. The 7.1 virtuals "driver" positions are very costumizable. The GUI includes 5.1 support with 3 settings. The prefab'd eq settings are all well executed.

Now, just so you don't forget the import of this products biggest pro with all the below negitives...THIS SOUNDS GREAT.

Cons: It's not a perfect product but while on sale in the $60ish range not counting MIR it's impossible to find a better product in the price range. Can't knock an egg dispite flaws.

I hear some static while streaming audio @certain freqs. Could easily be audio source thou.

I feel the pleather wrapping around the headband will eventually disintagrate over time resulting in a messy tacky product. I'd imagine that type of wear will take years and years even by a 'hard-core' gamer thou.

The pivot points for the cups seem as if they wouldn't take much pressure to break and also feel that with use it would eventually snap even if gently used. I'd imagine this will be my devices point of failure.

The device doesn't play nice with my ver of Realtek. I should update it's driver as well and perhaps that would fix the issues. Put simply it must be set as default device or it no-worky.

The lows seems decent but are certainly outshown by the mids and highs even with eq trying to highlight bass.

The volumue buttons, unless you're actively using the GUI, seem quite faulty. They must be depressed each time (approx 50 clicks from 100%-0%) if you're outside of the GUI. Within the GUI you can hold them down and they'll respond smartly. Clearly an issue that should be addressed by an updated driver. (I use the most recent one v1.1)

I haven't used for an extended period of time but I could see them being a bit uncomfortable for long-period uses.

Other Thoughts: These are loud enough to damage your hearing, don't use them on max constantly just because it sounds great.

I have installed the most recent v1500 v1.1 drivers (available via the corsair website) and would recommend you do the same if you purchase this product.

It is noticably much more difficult to hear outside noise with these on.

I tested the mic via Skype and it seemed clear enough but I haven't used it real-world nor with any notable background noise.

Included in the GUI is an option to continuously rotate the "seven drivers" either left or right....WHY??? Don't do that to yourself.

Panasonic SC-XH170 5.1-Channel Cinema Surround Home DVD Home Theater System

2 out of 5 eggs No innovation in years 02/01/2013

This review is from: Panasonic SC-XH170 5.1-Channel Cinema Surround Home DVD Home Theater System

Pros: Cheap, easy setup and install. Does what it's suppose to do...

Cons: poorly. HT in a box has improved next to zero in the past decade. The sound quality, regardless of settings is just generally unbalanced and poor. I'm unsatisfied with this product, I won't ever purchase a HT in a box again, I'll spend the money and get a real Home Theater in the future.

Short rear Sat cords not long enough for anything bigger than a 1bd apartment living room.

Other Thoughts: You can probably get better, older Home Theater in a Box systems here on newegg. Just do some reseach.

I am FAR FROM AN AUDIOPHILE, these things just don't perform as I'd expect for the money. I'm using my TV as a switch and Audio Outing via a brand new fiber.

If you're satisfied with medicore sound for $150+ these things will likely sound better than your TV speakers...marginally.
