This review is from: Seagate Backup Plus 3TB USB 3.0 3.5" Desktop Hard Drive STCA3000101 Black
Pros: It's quiet and stores a lot of data.
Cons: I'm not sure when it started to go downhill because even though the drive is failing, it gave no indication there was a problem. After my PC experienced a BSOD, I decided to run a program to check the health of my drives. The program stated that the health of the drive was down to 5% and would likely die soon, and that there were a ton of bad sectors. I've had the drive for about a year and a half, so it probably started failing after a year or less. I knew it ran hot (is always above 50 C), so I bought a fan and set it to blow on it, which seemed to help some, but I guess it must get a bit hotter when it's actually doing a backup, which has probably worn down the drive.
Other Thoughts: A drive that runs hot and lasts less than 2 years is not worth the hassle of buying. Some people might get a particularly hearty drive or find a better way to keep it cool (if that's even the only problem), but the risk of getting a bad one is too much. Fortunately, my drive is still under manufacturer warranty, so I'll send it back and hope the replacement is better. Once I'm out of warranty, I'll probably open the case and put the drive in something that will actually keep it cool.READ FULL REVIEW
