Great POE Switch
Pros: Great 8port PoE switch for home use. Loaded with features and supports options that professinal switches have - i.e.: VLANs, Port Mirroring, PoE , QoS, AAA, LAG, LLDP, and the list goes on.
Cons: The web interface use for managment tends to randomly timeout and kick you out. Not a big deal as it saves the data in the running config and all you have to do is to login again. Secondly, I'm using this to power a WiFi AP (Unifi AP Pro) over PoE and with just 1 connected it's already consuming 25% of available capacity. Before you plan on connecting 8 PoE devices, make sure you check the spec and know that it can handle the load.
Overall Review: I believe this is a fairly new product on the marked (I've found no reviews so far), and it's running firmware version 1.00. Hopefully a newer version of the FW will fix the web management timeout issue.
Great switch for advanced home use
Pros: Great 8port switch for advanced home use. Loaded with features and supports options that professinal switches have - i.e.: VLANs, Port Mirroring, PoE , QoS, AAA, LAG, LLDP, and the list goes on.
Cons: Just like the review I left of the GS-1900-8HP, the web interface use for management tends to randomly timeout and kick you out. Not a big deal as it saves the data in the running config and all you have to do is to login again.
Overall Review: I have 3 of these ZyXEL switches and I'm using them for it's VLAN and LAG capabilities with my home NAS/iSCSI server and VMware ESXi 5.5 - works great for that purpose. I'm hoping that ZyXEL will release a new firmware version soon that will make the web management interface a little more stable.
Great Product
Pros: Great products from Ubiquiti. Very flexible and provides professional grade features and options. Works real well in office environment with 30+ users.
Cons: On one occation, we experienced some slowliness and it turned out to be due to a few HP printers using the WiFi, which had Bonjour enabled. After turning Bonjour off on the printers, all is back to normal. From a few quick searches online, I believe the "bug" is with the HPs as they're flooding the network.
Overall Review: I've been using the UniFi products in 3 installations so far, ranging from just 1 AP to 5 APs and everything is working great. I'm using at least 2 VLANs for all installations (primary + guest), but have also done installations with more than 2 SSIDs and hence using more than 2 VLANs. Everything is very stable and working great.
Great switch
Pros: We use ~8 of these switches in an office/lab environment where we didn't want fans to make noise, and these little switches are fantastic!! (we also have the 24-port version, and are equially happy with those) The VLAN support is great and overall a lot of functionality for the money.
Cons: None
Overall Review: As some other reviewer stated: The PoE statement from Newegg is inaccurate as this switch does NOT provide PoE. However, it can be powered by using an uplink to port #1 from a PoE capable switch. We have been running these 8 port switches off PoE (without using the external power supply) with great success.
