Most Favorable Review

Dubious at first but turned out to be a great deal!

DELL Precision Grade A Mobile Workstation Intel Core i7-9750H 32GB Memory 1 TB SSD NVIDIA Quadro P620 15.6" Non-Touch Screen Windows 11 Pro 64-bit 3541
DELL Precision Grade A Mobile Workstation Intel Core i7-9750H 32GB Memory 1 TB SSD NVIDIA Quadro P620 15.6" Non-Touch Screen Windows 11 Pro 64-bit 3541

Pros: First rate Dell computer, no signs of previous use

Cons: Maybe not the most up-to-date processor but it is the same as the one have I been using at work for the last 3 years and it is more than enough for my personal needs.

Overall Review: Why pay full price for a computer? It's like buying a new car: it loses a lot of value as soon as you drive it off the lot. Let someone else take the loss, usually a large corporation that buys in bulk, then replaces them periodically, whether they need it or not. In some ways, these refurbished units are probably more reliable than brand-new: if they have been running without problem for a year or two, they will probably continue to do so. Most CPUs and other components fail within the first month if they are going to fail. I am very happy with my purchase and glad I didn't spend $2k or more to get the latest version of the same computer.

Most Critical Review

A great camera for the first month....

Hiseeu Light Bulb Security Camera Wireless WiFi 2.4GHz,10X Zoom PTZ Light Socket Security Camera for Home, 2-Way-Audio, Auto Tracking & Alarm, 3MP Color Night Vision, SD & Cloud Storage (Dual Lens)
Hiseeu Light Bulb Security Camera Wireless WiFi 2.4GHz,10X Zoom PTZ Light Socket Security Camera for Home, 2-Way-Audio, Auto Tracking & Alarm, 3MP Color Night Vision, SD & Cloud Storage (Dual Lens)

Pros: The hardware is quite functional

Cons: After the first month, you are no longer to access continuous recordings, even if you've installed a large SD card to store them. The vendor deliberately disables this capability, allowing you only to see 10 sec clips when triggered by motion. Their goal is to get you to buy a $49/yr subscription to their cloud service, more if you want 30-day storage. It is a total bait and switch!

Overall Review: Avoid this product; the vendor's business practices are unethical. None of this was clear from their product ads on NewEgg-- I certainly would not have bought the product had I known.

Nice solid keyboard-- I don't think it will wear out like my Dell keyboards do

Das Keyboard Model S Professional Wired Mechanical Keyboard, Cherry MX Brown Mechanical Switches, 2-Port USB Hub, Laser Etched Keycaps (104 Keys, Black)
Das Keyboard Model S Professional Wired Mechanical Keyboard, Cherry MX Brown Mechanical Switches, 2-Port USB Hub, Laser Etched Keycaps (104 Keys, Black)

Pros: Heavy and indestructible! Good tactile and audio feedback.

Cons: The function key labels (e.g., F1, F2) are very small and hard to read. They are off to the lower right to make room for volume and play/stop icons which I don't use and don't know how to activate. Not a big deal.

Overall Review: If you are sick of the typical low-profile, mushy PC keyboard, this will give you a much better typing experience! Considering how much you use a keyboard in a typical day, it is worth spending some extra money to get something that is not a cheap compromise.

probllems with USB connection

Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 1TB USB 3.0 Ultra-Portable Hard Drive (Silver)
Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 1TB USB 3.0 Ultra-Portable Hard Drive (Silver)

Pros: 1TB, USB powered, back-up software.

Cons: This would be a great little drive if not for the unreliable connection via the strange (proprietary?) connector on the device. My PC sounds like a pin-ball machine as the drive mounts and unmounts itself repeatedly. I have yet to find a position in which the drive will stay connected for more than a couple of minutes. USB 3.0 is fast but you cannot do a complete back-up of any size with this degree of flakiness. I bought it to move files between linux systems at home and work. After a few minutes of pin-ball on that OS, it gave up and reported that I needed to fix it using a PC (the format is NTFS). I am in the process of doing that now. Interestingly, although the activity light is off and the USB connection is lost from time to time, the "Check Disk" operation appears to continue in spite of it.

Overall Review: ...looking for RMA instructions.

Be careful! It is discounted for a reason!

YAMAHA RX-A800 7.2-Channel AVENTAGE Series A/V Receiver
YAMAHA RX-A800 7.2-Channel AVENTAGE Series A/V Receiver

Pros: Excellent audio quality, tremendous number of input and output options

Cons: Buggy as hell! In the morning, I use it primarily for HD radio. Over the course of an hour the radio will start "skipping"-- repeating the same ~250 msec sample over and over until I intervene. I have to either change channel and/or power cycle the unit. This happens every day after about 20 min of air time. Today, I couldn't change the channel and the remote would not power down the unit. I had to use the front panel power switch. There are also issues switching between "scenes"-- for example, HD radio listening and cable TV viewing. In the evening, when I power up and switch from radio to HDMI, there is no audio and nothing I do will activate it. I have to power cycle the unit and *then* I get my TV audio.

Overall Review: I am using the firmware that came with the unit. Although many have suggested that a firmware update will solve a lot of problems, it states in the manual (online, of course) that my firmware version does *not* require updating. Well, I have endured this nonsense for 6 months; I am going to give it a go. I will report back on whether is did any good.

Excellent. If it wasn't NewEgg itself, they could have fooled me.

The service was exactly as expected. The item arrived on time, as scheduled. The product was exactly what I ordered and exactly what I expected. I use it to connect several USB 3.0 external drives to my laptop. Data transfer rates are indispensable from when connected directly to the machine. Transfer of data between external drives connected to the bus are indistinguishable from when connected to the two USB 3.0 ports on the laptop. Now I can have all my external drives connected to the bus at once. I haven't tried running a monitor via USB or other more exotic signals but since they are all digital, I don't see why there would be a problem, so long as the required data rate is within the capability of the 3.0 protocol.
