Works with Ubuntu 7.10/AMD 64bit
Pros: The madwifi drivers work under Ubuntu Linux 7.10 (gutsy) in 64 bit land. You need to get source from the head of their revision control and build it yourself to make the card work.
Cons: No out-of-the-box linux support from D-LINK It took me a really long time to find the correct incantation to make it work under ubuntu linux.
Overall Review: I was in a bit of a panic wondering if I would need to ditch this item because I couldn't get it to work with ubuntu 64bit linux. I am up and running with this card at a pretty decent speed. Finally happy that I bought it.
Bugs and No Patches
Pros: It plays great for a while. I was completely enthralled.I was totally engrossed before it became unplayable.
Cons: The 2 characters I have played ended up at some save point as vampires which you cannot get out of because of buggy software. A while after that, the game ends up stuck with no way to continue. Basically it locks up when loading a saved character. There appear to be no plans to offer an update to fix these well known problems. Get the pc version and skip the ps3 where you cannot get patches. I've had over a 100 crashes (hard lockups) when playing. Turning autosave off helps, but then you just delay the inevitable.
Just what I needed
Pros: Everything went together easily in my existing Antex case. Restarted Linux after new components and was up and running fairly quickly on ASUS motherboard. Graphics was recognized fairly easily.
Cons: Don't have all drivers for Ubuntu Linux (though not a show stopper for me)
Overall Review: My old system made some crackling sounds and smoke started pouring out. After replacing power supply and no luck, decided to save some bucks and ditch having to replace my graphics card and possibly motherboard (one of them was frying power supplies). Went together super sweet with no problems. Works so much faster than old system with lower power consumption.
Swapped out ... ubuntu zero problems
Pros: Swapped this out for an older 3800++. Updated ubuntu linux and all works well.
Cons: none
Overall Review: Great motherboard for the price. Ubuntu linux works well with it.
Rocks with Linux and toshiba laptops
Pros: I recommended this model to a friend because I had purchased an earlier model of this over a year ago and it works great with linux and windows on my toshiba 5205-703. It installed flawlessly into my friends toshiba laptop. Having both the linux support and windows support makes me willing to recommend intel products.
Cons: I wish they had an pre-N version of this.
Comments: This board rocks for Linux. I picked up a barton 2500+ cpu along with some pc3500 memory on sale ( I know I didn't need that fast of memory ). It took about an hour to upgrade the hardware on my old machine. It's now been running almost continuously since august ( 4 months). The only times I've had to restart are because of power outages. Other Linux users have reported problems but they seem to be centered around not having decent memory. I have been avoiding nvidia chipsets because of their lack of documentation for linux device driver writers. It really pays off to stick with a company (via) that supports the Linux community. I have not used the SATA drive interface yet, but plan to do so soon.
