AVG Anti-Virus 2013- 3 PCs (1 Year) - Download

4 out of 5 eggs Does the job 06/30/2013

This review is from: AVG Anti-Virus 2013- 3 PCs (1 Year) - Download

Pros: Has kept my many machines safe for years so far. Reasonably priced if you buy from Newegg. All the review rules let me say is this is the best way to buy it or you will pay a lot more. Their surf shield is really nice. Don't have a lot of diddling to do to run it.

Cons: This latest version broke a large expensive camera server program I know to be safe so this required a system restore. It didn't ask me if it could remove the items it just did so. This could be a setting but it was the default and it has never done so before. Program is still tossing errors so I will have to reload it. That's not cool. Whats with wanting to add tool bars to browsers? Hate that. The last ding is they want to be my search engine now. Must be a lot of money in searches. Not going along with this.

Other Thoughts: Even with the negatives if they can pull back on trying to take over the world. I mean I can get to speedtest myself thanks. If they slow their roll on some of these items I will stick with them. I use AVG to protect my server and all my workstations but I can get antivirus for free from my ISP yet I still prefer & pay for AVG. This could change. Since they require registering to use their product some thanks now and then would be nice. They never send flowers.

OSTER 6329 Brushed Stainless Inspire Toaster
  • neweggOwned For: more than 1 year

5 out of 5 eggs Bring this toaster back Oster 12/30/2012

This review is from: OSTER 6329 Brushed Stainless Inspire Toaster

Pros: Nice looking appliance with handy features. Wide slots. Bagel setting toasts on one side only. Toast, Bagel, Frozen and keep warm button controls with a cancel button. Easy to keep clean. Liked it so well I gave some as gifts.

Cons: I have read other reviewers tell of marks that appear on the sides after use and a few complaints it failed fast but not my experience. It has a lot of stainless steel but also a band of plastic around the base. If you don't touch the SS you can keep it new looking for a long time. I just touch the base and mine looks almost new.

Other Thoughts: I really can't believe I am reviewing a toaster but hey. I have had a lot of them and this one is good. I hate it when I find a good product only to see the company abandon it. Oster no longer lists this model on it's site but does list a four slice Inspire.

D-Link Xtreme Gigabit Router (DIR-655) Wireless N300, USB SharePort, Gigabit

1 out of 5 eggs Looked like a good router 07/21/2012

This review is from: D-Link Xtreme Gigabit Router (DIR-655) Wireless N300, USB SharePort, Gigabit

Pros: Highly configurable with a good firewall so you can lock it down easily. Comes with a typical wizard so the less technical can likely set it up for general use without drama.
Phone support available and they actually answered the phone.

Cons: The one I bought refuses to give out IP's. At first I had to use some tricks to even get to the net including hard coding even the routers IP in the DNS server ethernet card config. Comes with a typical wizard so the less technical can likely set it up for general use without drama that gets in the way. Support only answers the phone once. Forget a second call. My call dropped because my phone is tied in to the router and the reboot killed my call. The second call was not allowed and I bought this less than a month ago. Support under the impression a firmware update will fix a major function failure.

Other Thoughts: You pays your money and you takes your chances. Because this device won't hand out IP's I no longer have a voip phone that works so will have to put the old also unreliable router back in service. Tech support not thoroughly knowledgeable and should be if that is their gig. Ambivalent about Dlink now.
