Top of the line
Pros: Flawless performance. I'm using it as a 4 Gbps trunk for iSCSI. The Intel drivers and software work great and are very intuitive. iSCSI boot...priceless. Overall a top quality product
Cons: A little pricey but it comes with the territory.
Updated Review - VT and Vista Ultimate
Pros: This is a follow up to my previous review regarding enabling VT through the BIOS update. Enabling VT opened the door for installing Windows 2008 Server and using Hyper-V virtualization. Why? Because I need to run Visual Studio, IIS and MS SQL on completely separate OS instances for development purposes. Virtualization allows me to do just that and the resolution of this laptop is a godsend for a developer's busy desktop. Worked great and I was even able to get every single bit of hardware working as well (camera, bluetooth, firewire, function keys, 100% everything). This thing could probably run as a production server with 2 VMs without any trouble. I believe this should help the previous reviewer's problem with Vista Ultimate. The key is this: once you install the new OS from scratch, the VERY FIRST THING you need to do is install the "Sony Shared Library" and then the "Sony Notebook Utilities". Then you can install the rest of the drivers (all found on Sony's web site).
Cons: Keyboard takes some getting used to.
Overall Review: If I was able to run Win2008 server with Hyper-V on it then I am sure you can run any version of Vista. The key is the proper sequence of package installation.
Great little mouse!
Pros: Microsoft's hardware is generally very high quality - if only they could get their software to be as good! This mouse is very well made. The bluetooth option (why not advertised?) is excellent and the 1 GB memory stick/USB transmitter is a nice bonus. Very smooth - I love it.
Cons: Don't forget to turn off the switch at the bottom when not in use, or get ready to charge it every couple of days! Not a real con, just common sense!
I like it a lot!
Pros: Worked flawlessly on an HTC (AT&T) Fuze. This card is very fast! The price is also right.
Cons: None!
Overall Review: Usable capacity is just over 15 GB so you lose some space to formatting - not the fault of the particular card but worth mentioning.
Excellent...for techies!
Pros: If you have the stomach for a non-standard firmware upgrade and are willing to spend some time loading DD-WRT, this is one of the best N-wireless routers in the market, especially at $49.99 delivered. The range is suprisingly good for a small box sans external antenna, as long as you place the router high enough (desk level).
Cons: Other people report problems with the built-in firmware. Can't comment since I loaded DD-WRT from the get go but if indeed that's the case, that's a shame because it limits the audience of this router to the techies (average Joe will not want to bother with DD-WRT - see below).
Overall Review: The current version (April 09) of DD-WRT does not work (it keeps rebooting the router) and could leave you with a bricked router. I'm sure this will be remedied in the future but as it stands today, you have to hunt down a previous version (03-03-09) of the firmware on the DD-WRT site (took me some time to find it). This particular version works well but has a problem authenticating *some* (not all) clients using WPA2.
VT *is* available
Pros: Just want to let the previous reviewer (and anyone else for that matter) that VT *is* available but not through the BIOS. Search the Internet for Igor Levicki, he wrote a BIOS utility specifically for the Sony FW series that enables VT. Works like a charm. BTW, excellent laptop, at $799 for this kind of hardware it's a steal (no wonder it sold out).
Cons: Keyboard takes some getting used to.
