Fails like bad medical insurance
Pros: - Worked well in the beginning
Cons: - Failure modes are poorly designed - When failed, can't power on - Constant alarm that cannot be disabled
Overall Review: Most people like their medical insurance when they don't need it. It's only when they do that they find out the problems with it. I've had this UPS for four years. Yes, it was great - kept me up during power fluctuations, provided power for clean shutdown when the power went out. However, it appears the batteries have gone (understandable after four years of use). The problem is that there was no indication of this - it sat there happily humming along with a full charge indicator. Then the power bounced, all my equipment shut off, and it started beeping. And beeping. And beeping. Front panel blank, still beeping. Couldn't disable the alarm, couldn't turn it on. I ended up unplugging it, putting a surge suppressor in and plugging into that. What I expect from an UPS: - Tell me when the batteries fail - If the batteries fail, provide power - Allow me to disable any alarm - Even if it's not UPSing, it should still provide power from the mains
