So far, so good
Pros: Easy installation for me. I'm using Windows XP with service pack 2. It showed up in disk management right off the bat. Just initialize it from disk management, do the partition and quick format and you're done...I transferred 20 gigs onto it within a couple of minutes.
Cons: None.
Overall Review: A great upgrade for the price. I haven't had any problems with WD drives before. As always, quick shipping from Newegg. Had it in less than 48 hours.
Expected better...
Pros: Small size, cheap price, tone knob.
Cons: No bass at all.
Overall Review: I got sick of the big sub taking up the bottom portion of my desk. I wanted small speakers for general purposes. To be honest, I'm pretty surprised at the huge difference. I kept the bass practically turned off on my sub. Well, comparing that to these is night and day. I actually checked my connection to be sure it wasn't pulling out. Its basically all mids and highs, no bass at all. My card's bass controls are useless, no change at all. I was hoping to turn up the bass a little on my card (also was completely off with the sub system) and beef these up. No luck. I expected better from Altec Lansing, even though they were cheap. If you're looking for speakers for anything other than a quick replacement -- I'd say go to the store and take a comparision listen -- and then buy what you like at Newegg. You have to hear them to appreciate the differnces in speakers.
Not what I expected
Pros: Can't think of any right now.
Cons: Wireless connection required a call to Linksys Tech support for an hour of help. Connection is spotty at best, completely lost at its worst. Despite much higher speed test results, no appreciable difference in the speed for every web surfing and email.
Overall Review: I bought this as an upgrade to an old wired HPNA router. I got the combo deal with the draft-N wireless adapter. If it wasn't such a hassle putting everything back the way it was, I would have done it already and sent this thing back. I have the router in a bedroom and the laptop in another room on the same floor and the signal is typically just "good." One move in the wrong direction and the signal strength changes. I have the latest firmware. I've called Linksys again for some optimization help and the changes don't seem to do anything. My wireless radar shows neighbors's signals stronger than this thing's. I don't want to use the DD-WRT (as somjust in case it ends up worse. At least at this point, it *sometimes* works. You shouldn't need 3rd party firmware to get this going working properly. I expected so much more from draft-N. If you buy this to replace another router set up, keep the other stuff handy and the packaging all ready for this thing -- It might be going bac
Love this little mouse
Pros: Retractable and lockable cord
Cons: None
Overall Review: I tried another mini-mouse for my laptop and hated it and sent it back. To me anyway, this size is adequate. Its certainly smaller than your typical mouse, but not much so that it feels foreign. So far its been very responsive and the wheel is better than on some -- its not snapping up or down into place like some mice do. This cord will retract AND lock at the desired length - not all of them lock, which can be very annoying. The cord is not long though, so use this only for a laptop or in a space where your connection won't be far. The changing colors are just plain cool if you go for that sort of thing. If the cable was longer, I'd order one for my desktop as well.
Great buy, love it.
Pros: I picked this after a lot of research. The small size is a pro in my view. It can fit in more places around the car, over the rearview mirror in my Honda. The display automatically and noticeably, adjusts to light changes. It takes AA batteries. Another reviewer mentioned not changing the volume -- the volume can easily be changed in the settings menu, along with most other things. Its very simple and no frills, seems to have everything the expensive ones do just in a small package.
Cons: The quick start guide was OK, but it should tell you to set it up outside or in the car. I set it up in the house, and it couldn't get signal, however it allowed me to continue setting it up so I did. Later, it couldn't find signal anywhere outside. I had to call tech support to reset it. Call tech support from outside. There are long call wait times, only to be told to go outside and call back. All this just to get the reset code (see below.)
Overall Review: If for some reason you need to reset it -- press the arrow and wheel buttons down together, and then while holding them, power it up. It will ask if you are sure you want to reset it.
No one beats Newegg
Comments: I ordered this keyboard yesterday and picked regular UPS shipping. It was here this morning. I'm using it already. This is a great deal, don't miss it. I type more than most people and I find it very comfortable so far. The detachable wrist rest is a nice feature -- you can lay your own wrist rest on it and move the keyboard around easily. The lay out has nothing too unusual -- just an extended delete key which you sometimes find. It has lots of multimedia keys and few handy keys on top of the numeric pad so you don't have to move -- like a backspace key. As usual with Newegg, I'm very pleased. Thanks to all the other reviewers who helped me make this choice.
