This review is from: SYBA SY-PCI40010 PCI SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) RAID Controller Card
Pros: Adds extra hard drives when I need them.
Cons: It adds about 60 seconds to my boot time because it is spinning up every drive looking for a boot sector. I don't trust the thing to boot an OS, it is just to add a bunch of drives and there is no ability to tell it to shove off until windows boots.
Other Thoughts: Not worth the hassle. I am just going to replace two of my hard drives with 5TB drives and give away the old 2TB and smaller drives.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: Some extra USB 3.0 ports.
Cons: They are so close together that you cannot use all of the ports at once.
Other Thoughts: I should have bough a 4 port card.. this is basically a 3 port card since everything is so jammed together.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: iStarUSA RP-5HDD2535I 5.25" Drive Bay Bracket for 2.5" and 3.5" HDDs / SSDs
Pros: Allows for effective mounting of a few 3.5 inch drives.
Came with 2.5 inch mounting screws (which I did not previously own), and some OK 3.5 inch screws.
Cons: Poor instructions, flexible plastic bends too easily. The device does indeed fit 5 2.5 inch drives if they are very thin. I have a couple of 12mm thick drives that don't work. Putting 5 HDDs that are all spinning at once is probably a terrible idea (heat and vibration) but 5 older SSDs in a RAID array I could see as a viable option
Other Thoughts: I was able to fit 3 assorted sized drives in it. No more will fit unless I throw away some of them and swap them for thinner drives.
I wish I had paid an extra $40 for aluminum instead. It would have more rigidity and better thermal properties.
