Good low end quiet card

GIGABYTE Radeon HD 4550 512MB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 Video Card GV-R455D3-512I
GIGABYTE Radeon HD 4550 512MB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 Video Card GV-R455D3-512I

Pros: I put this in my work computer and it improved the screen resolution, contrast and detail over the on board graphics, which was HD4200. Some would say subtle improvement, but for it was me worth it for sure, particularly with the rebate and free shipping. Also released some system resources. Running cool for me so far, but I'm not stressing it either. Three fans in my box, so it should be able to stay cool.

Cons: But here's the problem. If you install these drivers without fully and completely and totally and absolutely removing the HD4200 drivers and everything associated, then Catalyst Control Center won't open. A common problem apparently and one that is ATI's fault, not Gigabyte's, although they certainly could tell you (one egg gone for that - I even have a Gigabyte board I plugged this into!) If this happens to you, use a good uninstaller like Revo, clean your registry with CC Cleaner or the like, run the ATI uninstall on the software to get the rest, search your drive to find and delete all instances of ATI that you can find, and reinstall. Works fine now and I can always throw the HD4200 drivers back on if this card fails.

Overall Review: C'mon guys. I hate software crapola - just search the internet - this happens a lot. Well, they say AMD/ATI drivers have glitches - this isn't a glitch, it's an obvious problem reported many times and never fixed. OK Gigabyte, you're a good company saddled with ATI driver software - could you at least warn us? It wasn't a hard for me, but judging from the agony expressed on the internet, a heads up would sure generate good will. Gigabyte?

Most Critical Review

Absolute, total garbage

Rosewill RTCG-CE505A Black Toner Replaces HP 05A CE505A
Rosewill RTCG-CE505A Black Toner Replaces HP 05A CE505A

Pros: There are none, except the little pieces of paper in the box that say "505A QC PASS". Those are funny. The reverse has Chinese print on it. I can guess what the Chinese says... other side not true.

Cons: Bought two of these lured in by Rosewill's customer appreciation $20.00 New Egg card per toner. These "toners" just print blobs of black ink. That's it. Almost no text can be seen. Both of them. Absolute garbage and into the trash.

Overall Review: Don't even think of buying this toner product. There is no recourse - you can't return them or get them replaced. The box has a guaranty on it, but it doesn't even say who made these. Rosewill just slapped a sticker on them with their name. If Rosewill appreciated their customers, they wouldn't be selling this stuff... nor would New Egg for that matter.

Works ok so far

HP 05A Replacement Toner by Polaroid - Black Cartridge, Hewlett Packard CE505A
HP 05A Replacement Toner by Polaroid - Black Cartridge, Hewlett Packard CE505A

Pros: Came in a professional looking box. Has a brand name on it. Print seems clean and clear. No squeaks or binding. So far so good.

Cons: Remanufactured toners can be hit or miss. Was I lucky and got a good one? Are they all good. Can't tell from just one but I'll order another and see. (I use a lot of remanufactured toners during tax season for printing drafts so my expectations are low and it lets me test these out.)

Overall Review: It's too bad the OEM's are so expensive and that the remanufacturing of these toners is so variable among the companies. I print a lot so I keep trying to cut costs but my final docs have to look good too. I always keep an OEM as a backup...

Product is ok; main unit isn't

Xplova XA-HR1 Heart Rate Monitor (HRM), ANT+ Wireless
Xplova XA-HR1 Heart Rate Monitor (HRM), ANT+ Wireless

Pros: Lightweight, comfortable, works.

Cons: Main computer unit kills this deal. ANT+ is being replaced by bluetooth which draws less juice.

Overall Review: This unit appears to be a rebranded unit similar to the others on teh market, but that's ok.

Poor design and execution

Xplova E5 - GPS Cycling Computer
Xplova E5 - GPS Cycling Computer

Pros: Small, lightweight bicycle computer. OK looking. Paired ok with the heart rate belt and sensors. Felt cool at first trying a new item just introduced in the US.

Cons: The buttons on the side of the unit are toggles for some reason, and are cheap plastic held in place by small connectors inserted in tiny rubber grommets. They do not hold and the button/toggle pops out when it is used - will surely be lost when riding. The unit does not sync with the online site for transferring/changing height/weight etc. even though it is supposed to. This was labelled as a "standard" package. Not supposed to include the speed cadence sensor. NewEgg agreed with that - I ordered the sensor - it was already included - I received the"advanced" package - frustrating. There is a painful amount of button pushing to scroll through menus and set this up. The instructions are online and incomplete. Setting the time zone was by guesswork. There is no mention of a mileage trip meter although it appears to have a tiny one at the top right. No way to be sure of that. The recording/lap function is very strange\unintuitive and mostly unexplained. Software update did not complete as stated in manual. Seemed to work though. The screen is only 1 inch high - I knew that but it is smaller than you think. The description on New Egg is awful. Why these marketplace sellers don't make the effort to put up some info is beyond me. The manufacturer does not respond to questions submitted through New Egg.

Overall Review: Well, I'd say don't do it. The buttons popping off alone is enough to kill the deal, and if you don't have patience for figuring a lot out on your own, forget it. The inability to sync correctly with the site was a nice touch too. NewEgg was ok with the return but I have to stop wasting money on postage on bad items. Someone else can try the next new thing first!
