Good Software at a good price

Autodesk Sketchbook Pro 6
Autodesk Sketchbook Pro 6

Pros: Purchased this software as a Daily Shell Shocker for the wife, the artist in the family. My skills stop at stick men! She enjoys it, is happy with it and it does what she wants. She is using it on her laptop without a separate pen tablet. I have a feeling that a pen tablet is in the near future

Cons: None

Overall Review: This came with free shipping which is a plus. I live outside of Nashville, TN and in the past I have received orders in one to two days. Looks like Newegg has changed shippers to DHL. This package shipped from Memphis, TN to St Louis, back to Memphis where it was handed off to USPS, then to Nashville then to me. Now it did arrive in the quoted time frame and was free! While I monitored the tracking info, I wondered if the package would show up with a bunch of stickers from other countries like in the cartoons! Hey, it's all good! BTW, happy wife--happy me.

Most Critical Review

Fast Drive but Despise the non-standard USB Cable

Seagate Expansion 2TB USB 3.0 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive STBV2000100
Seagate Expansion 2TB USB 3.0 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive STBV2000100

Pros: The drive is fast. I can definitely tell the difference between the USB 3.0 speeds of this drive compared to similar USB 2.0 drives. My drive was purchased elsewhere but I have never had a problem with Newegg. It just happened I found it at a better price elsewhere.

Cons: Where the USB cable attaches to the external drive a non-standard cable is used. It has a larger than standard molded connector with 2 small mini "D" connectors that frequently seems to get disconnected when the drive is moved around even a small amount. Too large of a connector that just doesn't want to stay securely connected. The drive is made to work with PCs or Macs thus the 2 mini "D" Connectors. I think that Mac users can use a standard Mac cable to connect to the drive in order to use whatever the new Macs have as an improvement over standard USB 3.0. Not a Mac fan so I really don't keep up with what they are doing. Look closly at the Newegg pics where it can be seen.

Overall Review: While happy with the transfer speeds (sorry haven't benchmarked it) I really do not like the non-standard USB cable that comes with the unit.I would hate to have to attempt to find a replacement as it would probably have to come from Seagate and likely at a premium $$$.

Can't Complain-Inexpensive & works

Rosewill RX-358 V2 SLV - Silver, 3.5" SATA to USB & eSATA External Enclosure with Internal 80 mm Fan
Rosewill RX-358 V2 SLV - Silver, 3.5" SATA to USB & eSATA External Enclosure with Internal 80 mm Fan

Pros: This is the 2nd Rosewill RX-358 V2 that I have purchased. Both have worked flawlessly. Both even had extra screws included--don't see that often. I installed a Samsung Spinpoint F4EG HD155UI 1.5TB drive in this enclosure. Fan is quiet but can be turned off if desired. I like the idea of a fan. A more expensive Vantec enclosure I purchased has no fan but I knew that when purchased. The Rosewill has an on/off switch for both the drive and the fan. I prefer at least a power switch which my Western Digital My Book doesn't have.

Cons: Not a big deal but the power switch for the fan is a very small slide switch but I leave the fan on all the time anyway!

Overall Review: I have purchased more expensive enclosures e.g. a Vantec that came without a fan but it did have small rubber stubby feet on one side in each corner I suppose so you can lay it on its side. My first external drive was a 500 GB Western Digital My Book that is several years old and still working but as previously mentioned, no power switch. Because of the cost and warranty of external drives, I started purchasing OEM drives and enclosures and building my own external drives. With drive manufacturers decreasing the warranty period on their drives it may soon be a wash cost wise to build your own external drive. I haven't really shopped for any but I do not recall seeing any with eSATA.

Worked right out of box

BELKIN F5D8013 N Wireless Notebook Card
BELKIN F5D8013 N Wireless Notebook Card

Pros: This is a great NIC card for PCMCIA. Installed in ancient G-way laptop with fresh install of Windows 7 and it was immediately recognized and drivers were installed even though Windows 7 is not shown in compatibility list for NIC card. (Your mileage may vary.) So far it has worked flawlessly. Couldn't beat Neweggs price. Cheaper than used ones on popular auction site.

Cons: None to date.

Overall Review: Two observations: 1)Windows 7 seems to work on more (older) machines than is usually indicated. 2)Not a criticism but seems odd on Neweggs part: ships from fulfillment center to UPS to (yes) USPS to me. I guess what ever works as it was free shipping! Go 'EGG!!

Well Worth the $$$

LITE-ON DVD Recorder LVW-5115GHC+
LITE-ON DVD Recorder LVW-5115GHC+

Pros: I didn't buy my refurb unit from Newegg but wanted to leave my 2¢. I have had mine for 18+ months and it has played everything I have thrown at it. I burn AVI's to DVD +/- RW along with subtitles (srt, sub, etc) erase and use the disc again Goodbye VCR tapes. Mine will play NTSC AND PAL. Set it up just like a VCR to record TV shows but more flexible day/date options & a lot of timer slots. I have really given this unit a work out--believe me! I am buying a 2nd one today!

Cons: Recently it quit reading any disc but a google search led me to the fix. Dust on the laser. 10 minute fix and just as good as new. I will agree with one person that said the blue "on" light is bright.

Overall Review: I don't get some of the con comments. No it does not play dual sided disc, it is not HD, no HDMI, no S-Video, no 1080i upconversion. Read the specs, it does not claim to have these features. Yes you can delete a time recording by going to the program menu and press the "Left Arrow" button onto the trashcan icon and hit enter--it's gone! I have never lost audio. I have my own programmable remote that cost $20 and programed this units functions into it. Mine came with everything as advertised. I have not upgraded the firmware as "if it's not broke, don't fix it" applies for me and I want to be able to continue to play NTSC and PAL. BTW, I don't work for Newegg:>)
