Question 1

I have a HP Pavilion p6120t.  I want to install two new drives that will be devoted to processing photos.  (Lightroom and Photoshop or Elements)  One drive will have to OS and program software.  The second will be backup.

I plan on using the Seagate Barracuda ST315005N4A1AS-RK 1.5TB 5900 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Retail Kit for the OS and the STBV1000100 1 TB Deskto Hard Drive for backup.

I will be running Win 7 64-bit.

Do you feel these HDs will be adequate?  If not, do you have any recommendations?

Hi Bob, I am an IT systems administrator. I purchased this drive specifically for my Wii U for all the games. It's performing well there. This drive would easily be perfect for just backup. 
If you have any doubts I would go with a Seagate drive

I want to use this drive with a Dish Network Vip 211K receiver.  The drive needs to have a sseperate power supply and be compatible with USB version 2.  Does this disk  have both capabilities?

I truly have no idea about using it with Dish but it does come with it's own power supply as pictured on the sale page. I use it for backing up my desktop which only has USB 2.0 and it works great. Hope that helps.

Is this hard Drive suitable for routine back ups of a  Windows 8.1 operating system?

It works great with Windows 8.1.  I do not use it for this purpose but I see no reason the backup wouldn't work.

Does this work with a Mac?  If not, which product similar to this does?

The answer is yes and no. If you know how to reformat from Windows ntfs to Mac Journaled then yes. If you do not then I would recommend researching how, it's not hard by any means, or buying an actual Mac version external drive.

Question 6

Can this be wall mounted and hung virtically or does it have to be laid flat?   I dont see a wall mount option on the back but i have a wall mount holder so i wanted to know if it was OK to use virtically.

i havent tried mounting it on a wall, but i do have it standing vertically and it works just fine so far. i hope this helps.

How well does this work with a Wii U?

Works like a charm. It's more space than you'll probably ever need and games boot up quickly. Worth every penny for a Wii U.

will this hd work for saving movies from a dvr ? does it have its own power source?
