Bad bad bad

Pros: High capacity, 64Mb. Warranty. advertised "Enterprise Storage"
Cons: Reliability. I dunno what newegg has going on here, but this shows as 4 starts, but more than 25% of the reviews are 1 star. WE have a bunch of these in a home-made SAN. Initially they wouldn't work due to firmware issues. We upgraded the firmware on more than 25 of them. Since then, which is over two years ago, we've had a failure rate of 75%. Literally we've replaced 3 out of 4 of them within that period. Eventually, this got to be a big enough headache that we retired this system - it was deemed too maintenance intensive and unreliable.
Overall Review: Anyone want some of these drives?
failed early...

Pros: cheap
Cons: failure... about 1.5-2 years in. It's now overheating and there are areas of the drive that cause total system failure if accessed. I've been trying to RMA, but the Seagate process does not recognize the serial number on the drive....
Dead just outside of warranty

Pros: It's cheap. Buy more than one and have a spare
Cons: Purchased 6/2009. Installed 7/2009. Died while on vacation 8/2010, had to pay someone to come by the house, pull it, install a new PSU, and put it back in the rack... I've since ordered a new PS from newegg at about 5x the cost, I need reliable.
Overall Review: Basic PS in a machine that's going to be around <1 year, sure.. Reliable, no. Easily warrantied per other reviews, no.
