Pros: They did finally give me an rma.
I mine coins more then anything else with my pc builds.
I use windows 7 pro
I have 7 diy pcs built
This board allows me to run 4 rx 480's 24/7 with really good results.
No risers just an open build using the diypc alpha-d86 black acrylic atx bench case.
the corsair ax 760 psu
a m2 ssd
2 x 8gb sticks of hypernx ram.
this build just runs and runs and runs. really happy with this setup.
Cons: Rma arrived at their shop NOV 28th.
Today is Feb 16 I got replacement board today.
30+31+19 = 80 days for a replacement. Too slow.
Did not test replacement. Will do it on the weekend
This is still out for repair RMA biostar has had it since Nov 28th. They finally answered my emails and said we are sorry but it takes time to repair or replace.
Today is Jan 15Th so this is 49days that they have the board in their possession.
I own 7 of these boards and would buy another two but I won't buy one more from them until they fix the rma.
Sad and embarrassing way to run a business as I have talked many into using this board for mining coins.
I speak politely here as my interest is a good board that just works since 6 of 7 do I keep rating at 4 stars.
But if you buy only 1 board and it breaks a 49 day wait from when they receive the board and no repair or replacement is bad. I will follow up in about 3 to 4 weeks to let you know what they do.
I made this my go to mining board I have six of them five are flawless and one had a short near the 8 pin cpu jack on the board. I sent it in for a rma it arrived at biostar on NOV 28th and no reply since then.
So I spent 16 to ship it and now have 25 or 26 days of them holding the board without any info. As a miner mobos make me money every day of down time cost me money about 6 dollars per day is lost in earnings so 25 to 26 day delay is about 150 to 162 the price of the board. I would rate them 1 star if the one board was all I had. Since 5 other boards are working very well I kept rating at 4 stars. 25-26 days of holding a rma with out an update of any kind is not acceptable . I am so annoyed that I am hoping for more mobos with other companies.
What really angers me is I have made many sales for them and I have recommended this board to big players in coin mining I know people with a dozen of these boards based on my pick of it. Builders of boards need to understand gpu miners buy tons of gear. I estimate there are more then 500,000 gpus worldwide mining coins that means 100,000 motherboards. Slow rma with no updates are not acceptable to a miner. I found another 4 card no riser motherboard from a different company and I am testing it as I type. I never would of had to do this is biostar simply posted updates on their rma's as I type this I have the status page opened on their website and I see a nov 28th received notice and that is it. I don't even understand where to ask about it on the website. My great fear now is my other six boards will die off one by one and all the rams will be really slow like this one.
I only have two of these I should have only used these and not any other mother boards.
If you use rx 480 cards you can run this without risers.
Other Thoughts: I posted photos of this build on another website since it truly is my best etc coin rig. doing about 100mh at 600 watts. I can not be any happier about then I am . It is merely a question of how long does it hold up. If it give me a year or more it will have been one of my better purchases in mobos.
Update Dec 9 I now own 5 of these boards and I am waiting on a sixth.
I have altered my card of choice to the MSI RX 470 gaming 4gb size on sale at Newegg.
I use a 128gb samsung m2 ssd
I use 1 stick of 8gb ddr4 ram
I prefer the intel i5 6400t cpu
I have settled on EVGA 850 p2 psu's
This is a great mining board very small size and basically just runs.
My biggest problem with this board is nothing. I only wish I had not used 5 other boards looking for the best one.
Now someone said the board is thin yes it is and I would hesitate to put 4 cards on it and stick it in a case,
but mine lay flat on I screw them down and add extra support so the thinner material for the pcbs is not an issue.
This review is from: Rosewill TOKAMAK 1500W Full-Modular Power Supply (80 PLUS TITANIUM Certified)
Pros: It can do up to 1500 watts. SALE price is very good.
Cons: None. No jumper to run unit without a mobo for us miners.
Other Thoughts: Okay first off I mine way way way more then I game. I use this beast with a special 8 gpu rig purchased factory direct from China. No links allowed. But I did review the 8 gpu miner on a bitcoin site that I am very well known on. This piece of gear was purchased to replace a gold 1600 watt unit made by a competitor. Why did I get this it is on sale and was 75 dollars lower cost then the gold competitor. It is a titanium vs gold. So I plugged it in and fired it up and it works. I needed a jumper to attach to the motherboard cable. A suggest for rosewill the unit is a beast and people will mine with it. Install an extra part for us make a mining switch that plugs into the psu you have 2 sections in the psu for the mobo cable. So sell us a color coded part that goes into the psu and turns the psu on without a mobo you could make the part for like a dollar or two.
Then this would be a go to mining psu.
In my case I had a coupon and after tax this was 255 usd. the gold version from a different company is 335 after tax so 80 saved and this uses 35 watts less the that gold version. so 35 watts 24/7/365 at 10 cents = 30 a year in power.
So 80 saved up front with 30 a year in power make this an easy choice for a miner. I will get back to let you all know if it keeps working at the constant 1000 watt power draw.
Pros: I am an eggXpert Reviewer The Mobo Just came in today. I have to order a new i5-7400 cpu for it to start it up and running as I want to test it with the newest gen cpu. ram is also coming in a day or 2.
But physical inspection of the board gives the following results. The pcbs is on the stiff side a bit more hefty then many boards that is good. It has 4 sata cables . A g-connector this allows you to attach all your signal wires in your case to it then simply plug it into the mobo. It is easier to do this then to attach your power/ reset/hdd led/ etc directly to the mobo. more mobo builders should do this. The manual is short and simple. the quick install guide is short.
also a cd with drivers.
a padded i/o shield which i like but may be hard to fit in some case builds.
2 cpu fan four pin.
3 sys fan four pin.
First Follow up I got an intel i5-7500.
It is up and running.
Leds look really good.
I have 1 MSI rx 470 and 1 Visiontek rx 460 running a program to mine eth coins.
For people into bling , but on a budget If you build this mobo with :
one msi rx 470
Item#: N82E16814137024 = this has good leds = cool or hot whatever
use corsair case
Corsair Carbide Series CC-9011083-WW
Item#: N82E16811139074 = nice see through panel to show off leds
You could even add this psu
Item#: 9SIA07234S8693 it has indicator leds
It will look amazing
The psu the case and the gpu are all on sale . leds and lights will look really good.
prices are low due to sale.
You could have a solid gamer cheap. And let it mine some coins while you sleep!
Cons: None for now. I found 1 con since I mine I don't put most of my rigs into cases. I mount them on plywood with nylon spacers and screws. So I like the board to have a power on switch. It allows me to avoid an extra wire to the little mobo pins to power it on. Not a big con for me and not a con at all if you use a case
Other Thoughts: Will need to get CPU to do tests.. I mine more then game. This can do 3 card directly to the board. This is a good thing for those that want to mine coins and game.
It also has a m2 sata slot which allows for a no wire ssd setup.
If you load this with rx 460 cards you can have a 2 wire setup the motherboard 24 pin cable and the 8 pin cpu cable
It has 2 m2 sata slots not one.
Right now I just loaded up a 1tb sandisk edge ssd and it runs well off that.
The i5 7500 cpu also works well.
Next followup I will test cpu if it will overclock a bit as it is not a model k.
but some plain models will overclock a bit.
I purchased more MSI RX 470 gpus. I am running 3 rx msi 470 gpus and mostly mining with the three cards.
The rig is mounted open air so the boards LEDS and the GPUS LEDS are fully visible. Looks very good and runs cool with fans at 45%. I will Post back In about 4 weeks to let you all know if it runs 24/7 for 30days.
I use an EVGA 750 p2 and the rig pulls around 335 watts. I am really happy with it as a mining rig at the moment. This would be a perfect miner/gamer mobo for those that want to do both.
