So far, so good

ASRock B450 PRO4 AM4 AMD Promontory B450 ATX AMD Motherboard
ASRock B450 PRO4 AM4 AMD Promontory B450 ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Slots are well spaced. Robust board.

Cons: Fit in old ATX case just ever so slightly off

Overall Review: I haven't done any testing, so I won't speak to performance. I am just pleased and almost surprised the computer is up and running, as I hadn't done this (new MB, CPU, and memory) in years. It took some doing to install the board itself: Not only were the mounting screws slightly off, but the I/O section at the back needed some flexing and pressure, which helped the screw holes line up better. It took three tries (again, not a practiced hand), and I really expected that the bit of pressure needed might have broken something, but it works. Oh, I also found it strange that some of the SATA inputs are mounted sideways, which in my case makes them difficult to access.

Fine while it lasted

Netgear WNR3500L-100NAR Wireless-N Router RangeMax Opensource with USB
Netgear WNR3500L-100NAR Wireless-N Router RangeMax Opensource with USB

Pros: * GUI and setup * Gigabit ethernet * Guest network and privacy settings

Cons: * Not consistently powering USB drive (see Other thoughts)

Overall Review: At around 2 years of age, the power switch failed. Turns out it does not need to boot up after the modem, so a little duct tape was able to overcome the loss of a power button--tape holds the button in, and all seems well....except that it is not providing consistent power to the attached USB drive (occasional clicking indicative of not enough power--could be upstream of the router, but could be related to the power switch). Then at around 28 months of use it started occasionally dropping the internet connection: Connection page (from Status page) indicated disconnected; pressing Connect does indeed connect). At 30 months, it reset itself to factory defaults (save your profile!) and started dropping the internet connection more often. New router on the way...
