ASUS GeForce GTX 970 TURBO-GTX970-OC-4GD5 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

  • neweggOwned For: 1 day to 1 week

Pros: - Pretty powerful
- Plastic shell protects components from install damage
- Dual-side fan intake allows for more variety in cases and installations

Cons: - Fan produces a little more noise than I'd like when idle (sounds like a leaf blower in the distance most of the time)
- Large internal footprint (needs a decently sized case)
- AC plugs on the side instead of end (probably done to mitigate the length of the card itself, but having to have the plug coming out the side is limiting for cases/configurations)

Other Thoughts: Great card for the money (after recent price-drop the $200-range), and no real surprises if you're already familiar with large, powerful graphic adapters. Otherwise be mindful of how large this thing is, and make sure you've got enough case/space to house it.
Also worth mentioning that the GTX 970 was recently involved with a false advertising lawsuit based on the fact that the last .5gb of RAM is considered "spillover", and operates at a lower speed than the first 3.5gb. This isn't necessarily a problem, and the spillover RAM is still faster than using the HD's page-file, but make sure you understand what you're getting with this particular model so you aren't surprised later.

Deus Ex the Fall [Online Game Code]
  • neweggOwned For: 1 week to 1 month

1 out of 5 eggs Don't bother 10/17/2014

This review is from: Deus Ex the Fall [Online Game Code]

Pros: Tends to be cheap?

Cons: I could go through the technical and visual glitches that are common throughout the game, but perhaps the most damning thing is the one they don't tell you before you buy the game:

This is just part 1 of a story. And there's no mention of if/when part 2 will be made (or if there will be more than 2).

Other Thoughts: Basically, this is an unfinished game that's being sold as a finished product. Don't waste your time; the gameplay is sloppy, and there is zero satisfaction on the story due to a massive lack of closure.

Total Defense Premium Internet Security - 5 User (DVD)

2 out of 5 eggs Meh... 02/09/2014

This review is from: Total Defense Premium Internet Security - 5 User (DVD)

Pros: - Comes with a CD (which is important, because you can't get the same software any other way)
- The CD doubles as a drink coaster
- The box is WAY bigger than it's contents, so you'll have leftover cardboard for that fort you're building

Cons: - Basic activation requires credit card information
- The CD is REQUIRED, because the website does not offer a trail-version download (like most other providers)
- The software itself is unimpressive

Other Thoughts: This junk is pretty much on par with the free stuff you can get off the internet. I only bought it because, when added to another purchase, the net price was lowered (go figure). I wouldn't recommend buying it for any other reason.
