Pros: Great looking scans. Perfectly aligned, no distortion I could see. Even scanned my plastic Calif. drivers license! USB powered. Very small form factor (how do they do it?). Nice black cloth sleeve protector.
Cons: Quite slow. Looks like about 1/4" per second.
Overall Review: My other previous scanners were huge panel devices that I always had to find some place to keep out of the way. This scanner does my occasional document scanning and can easily be stuck in a desk drawer.
Pros: Very inexpensive. Great specs. Good rating at NewEgg.
Cons: It doesn't read some CDs! When I put in the factory software CD that came with my Genius scanner (bought here at NewEgg a couple days ago), it took 2 minutes(!) for the drive to finally stop whirring and clicking and produce the file information in Windows Explorer. I put the same CD in my 8 year old Dell laptop CD, and the file info popped up in less than 10 seconds. It does read other CDs, and I burned a music CD (but it sure seems a lot slower than the 48X it claims to do).
Overall Review: This will be the second CD/DVD burner (in 2 days) --and the only 2 USB drives I've ever owned that I have to send back. I used to have a Plextor firewire drive (on a 10ft. extension!) that felt like an IDE device. I'm going back to firewire --USB and CD just don't seem to mix.
Pros: Small. USB powered. Inexpensive. Worked with just one of the 2 USB cables connected to my PC. Didn't try it on a laptop.
Cons: Super slow seeking. I've had slower spec drives that were much faster than this one. CD burning sure SEEMS slower than other 24X drives I've had. Using a 10ft. USB extension cable, the drive wouldn't work consistently. Although small in size, it is quite heavy.
Overall Review: The slow seeking speed made this drive for me too unpleasant to be useful, and its weight made using it as an occasional laptop accessory not something I'd want to do.
